FireWire networking in WinXP - loses connection

When trying to copy files between 2 PC's with firewire, the copy stops after a few seconds, and I lose connection between the 2 PC's. if I wait 2min the network is back up as if nothing has happened :crap:

PC1:
Abit TH7II-R
PCI VIA IEEE 1394 card

PC2:
Chaintech CT-9CJS
Onboard VIA IEEE 1394

both have the same default XP driver installed.

anybody encountered this issue?

somethings wrong speedwise also... max 1.2-2.4Mb/s ?

firewire cable between the 2 PC's is acting up.

detached the cable, tried my DV cam on both PC's , no problem

reattached firewire cable between PC's -> dropped connection after few seconds :puke:

did you try a new cable already. There is a bit of a difference between firewire attached storage and firewire networking.

I know it worked fine for jimmy.

don't have another cable, cable was one that was intended for "attached storage". How much does a firewire "network" cable cost? how do you tell the difference?

don't know IF there is a difference, but there could be.
similar to USB PC2PC cables and UTP, they got to be twisted.
But then it shouldn't work at all.

Just guessing here, the 10/100 still has to do it for me (until giogabit is either PCIX or chipset/CSA)
