Zalman Zm80A+tweakmonster ramsinks

anybody knows if I have to remove the (tweakmonster) ramsinks on my gainward ti4600 when installing the zalman heatpipe?

TeuS 8th April 2003 11:46

do they get in the way of the heatpipe?

Da_BoKa 8th April 2003 11:55

i think so because the zalman uses your whole graphic card

Bosw8er 8th April 2003 11:57

Problem illustrator at work :^)

Can't you just try it ?

biCker 8th April 2003 12:06

Can't try it, have to buy the thingie... In all reviews I've been reading nobody talks about ramsinks whatsover (except that there are none included with the heatpipe)

Nevertheless, I think it won't fit cause the heatpipe seems to be really close to the backside of the card

Da_BoKa 8th April 2003 19:08

it will be better than the sinks so why don't by it

them blue heatsinks from thermaltake fit under my HP80, only not there where the heatpipe goes..

biCker 9th April 2003 21:41

ok, it won't fit!! I am going berzerk of the noise that the stock gf4 cooler makes. Any other solutions except watercooling?

RichBa5tard 9th April 2003 21:59

i've got a chopped up socket A cooler, equiped with a noiseless papst 80mm NGML and R9700 mounting holes.

Take your card with you tomorrow, hopefully it fits. :)

24db, there's also a 30db pro version

Thermaltake also has a G4 set, but i'm no Thermaltake fan.

A 6000rpm 40mm fan may only produce 24db, it's a pretty annoying high-pitched sound. I think it won't make less noise than his current cooler.

FreeStyler 19th April 2003 23:27

5V a thermaltake GF4 cooler, can't hear it, and keeps it nice and cewl.

Yeah, it's called a drill. ;D

So true.
It's a damn ****** to do however.
the drilling bit keeps getting stuck between the fins.
The best way is a high RPM drillpress and lowering it slowly.
The bit won't have enough metal to get stuck in with the force it's impacting.

RichBa5tard 20th April 2003 19:16

True, i've broken several bits. :/

biCker 21st April 2003 09:29

I might dumb, but a heatsink has also a flat surface to start drilling in

but when you get trough it, jou go between the fins....

I've also broken several bits :)

biCker 21st April 2003 10:04

oh that way, that's a typical drilling error: pressing on the drill like hell to get thru, once the hole is made the drill moves down to the next part at high speed/pressure and breaks. Patience and experience are the keywords here :)

TeuS 21st April 2003 11:07

I'll give it a shot this afternoon :)

tremor911 21st April 2003 20:35

Same problem...

Did you try? What part didn't fit?

I have the gainward ti4400 version, also with ramsinks, and I was also looking to install the Zalman. But does this mean it won't fit on my card either?? :grum:

When I touch my ramsinks they are not THAT hot, just a little warm. Do you guys think - if it doesn't fit on my card - removing the ones in the way could harm the card?

I want my next pc to be as quiet as possible, so this Zalman thingy would be perfect... ( fan on gainward makes quite a lot of noise imo )

*offtopic* Been reading the posts on this forum for a while, and you guys seem to know what u are talking about. :o Usualy I can find solution to my problems on the net somewhere, but since I had exact same problem as biCker, I was thinking, the hell with it, let's post something too... ;)

biCker 21st April 2003 21:27

placing it on a gainward with the stock ramsinks shouldn't be a problem, these are quite low but the tweakmonsters are rather high and don't pass unterneath the zalman

tremor911 21st April 2003 22:44

Alrighty then. Didn't know you changed the sinks.
Anyone else can assure me that the Zalman will fit over the standard ramsinks? I really don't want to waste 35 euros... :D

maro 16th June 2003 16:01

I'm pretty shure you may simply remove those ramsinks, they're more for the looks then for the actual cooling, if you know what I mean. As I said I'm not 100% shure but it's worth checking out in case it wouldn't fit.

I know but are they absolutely necessary?

tremor911 17th June 2003 11:07

Ramsinks were no problem at all. They fit nicly under the zalman. Works great, very quiet ( duh ) and looks quite cool :o
