zalman dual pipe vc cooler

how is the performance on those dual heatpipe coolers by zalma, i was thinkin about buyin 1, 46$ canadian. i have a fan to put on it already, im just wondering if it will significantly drop my vc temps to get a better overclock or if my msi card is good as is

well it's intended as passive cooling and with the amount of heat todays top vidcards put out you probably won't have much headroom for overclocking.

If you place fans to cool te passive heat dissipators you could probably gain quite a bit and oc a bit more.

And read Richbastard's article on videocard cooling here

well, i know its a passive cooler, but i remembered seing something about an optional fan with it, and i ahve a fan already so i was thinkin it might be a decent way to get a better o/c. wanted 2 kno if anyones tried it first....if not, i probly will:)

hmm, the one in that article only has one heat pipe, the one i was looking at has 2. the single does fairly well in those tests tho. how big a difference would the extra heat pipe make. you guys think it would be significant?

A HP80c (single heatpipe) can cool a 9800XT passivly at 76°C.

The dual heatpipe will halp to bring more heat to the backside of the cooling unit. Thus the front should remain a bit cooler.

Should work pretty fine.

hmm, that seems kinda hot.....maybe ill pass.....i dunno

jmke 22nd September 2004 17:03

those chips are rated higher then CPU's so 76°C ain't that bad, unless you overclock of course:)

ssl6 22nd September 2004 17:05

a better overclock is what i was hoping for

jmke 22nd September 2004 17:08

then just add a fan or two and performance will increase tenfold.

too late now....my money's gone....did some early x-mas shopping 2day, and bought the fifth element on dvd:)

FreeStyler 23rd September 2004 09:10

5th element DVD should be budget by now ;)

the stock cooler for that card cooled it to about 72°C
best I ever got it is with the ZM-OP1 fan at 12V and that was a 56-60°C
