X800GTO or X800GTO2

Hey guys, Currently have a Nvidia 6600 which is good but is not that great at OC'ing and can't unlock pipelines. I was thinking of going for an ATi X800 GTO or GTO2 but there seems alot of discrepancies between them and the different manufacturers. I was going to go for an X800 GTO but then saw the GTO2 could be garanteed to do X850XT speeds. Theres a £50 difference so am wanting to make sure I get it right. Could do with some extra help deciding on model and maker :ws:

Sapphire GTO² has 100% modding chance afaik

search the forum a bit (the webnews section) :)

not worthy of a new thread.. but still:)

bought me a Sapphire X800GTO² (limited edition).. since I've read about unlocking more pipelines.. default should be 12, moddable to 16.

so I used this guide: http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/...ng/vidcard/127

and when I was checking to see if the card was indeed moddable.. my eye fell on the field "Active Pipelines"..

well.. no unlocking for me, as this card comes shipped UNLOCKED :D

stock speed GPU:400 MEM:490

Got it all the way up to GPU: 540 MEM: 590

:o

that's X850XT PE speed on the GPU, and X850XT speed on the MEM !

Yeah GTO² is the best bang for teh buck atm.

just a tad more voltage and its flying like hell.

Did this yesterday for a friend;)

jmke 5th January 2006 17:14

[g]ATI+Tray+Tools[/g] is great to work with! Easy and much faster than ATI's Control Panel; and more versatile than ATITool.

ATI Tray Tools has a nice benchmark option

I'm running on A64 Opteron 1.8Ghz

when I start the system with this card; the screen shows

R480 X800XL BIOS

I've voltmodded videocards & motherboards when you were still in your diapers :p
but thanks for the offer;)

won't be doing anything so extreme as voltmodding the videocard; it going to used for testing & comparison; nothing more (for now).

The two new chips that ATI is putting on cards today are the R480 and R430. The R480 is the higher end part in this case. There is absolutely no architectural difference between these new chips and the original R423 on which they are based. That being said, they are both, in fact, different chips than their predecessor.
