voltage raising
 

let's start with the setup:

A7N8X-Deluxe. rev 2, 1007 BIOS
barton 2500+
albatron ti 4200
maxtor sata HDD 120GB
DVD and CDRW drive
enermax 350W PSU

if I try to raise the voltage of my CPU to the maximum, the computer hangs. I've tried to give my CPU 1.83 and 1.88 vcore and it's just NOT stable... black screen, no response from PC => reboot

voltmodded my Ti4200. stock 1.65. gave the GPU 1.75 and 1.8volt and it's NOT stable.

both are a bit overclocked: CPU at 2200mhz, GPU at 300mhz. they work fine at that speed, but when I raise the voltage my screen turns blank (or after a small period of time)

temperatures are no problem, GPU and CPU are watercooled. a fan is blowing on the videocard.

is this enermax PSU not able anymore to keep up with this machine, or what? :grum:

the readings suck though. if i remember well, on my previous A7N8X-deluxe my lines were displayed much better, and very close to the readings I got with my multimeter

I'll give the CPU / GPU some vcore and monitor my rails with a multimeter

readings with multimeter:
12v: 12.57
5v: 4.92

3.3v rail: hold on, I'll get a scheme of an ATX connector to find out where 3.3v is

check the edit, 3.3v rail sucks

not quite you have 3.2 an a 3.3 rail, that ain't that bad

did you try to flash a new bios?

i alsow have bleuscreens when i put my voltage to high ( but here whe speak about 2.2V )

12v rail: 12.35v
5v rail: 4.46v
3.3v rail: 2.90v

12v: 12.57

that sucks. mailed asus NL, but the e-mail adres is invalid. I'll try to get support. looks like Asus their site and support really suck

[PC specs, readings]

Hi,

the CPU runs stable at 2200mhz (11*200), gets 1.73 and is cooled well. I've got the following problems:

1. near the mosfets/audio connectors/northbridge something produces a buzzing noise when I'm loading windows, using certain applications (games, Linux,...), transferring photo's from my digital camera using the COM port,...
this is annoying because my PC is very silent, is there a fix for this?

2. on POST the speech reporter doesn't work well. I often get 'CPU fan fail' instead of 'bootign from operating system'. while gaming i often get the 'CPU fail' warning, multiple times after each other. my CPU runs perfectly stable though

no fans are connected to the mainboard, isn't it possible to turn off the 'CPU fan fail' notice on boot?

3. My voltage rails aren't good. I get the following readings:

from BIOS:
12v: 1.28
5v: 4.56
3.3v: 3v

with MBM5, in windows, with CPU under load
12v rail: 12.35v
5v rail: 4.46v
3.3v rail: 2.90v

with my previous A7N8X-deluxe and with a multimeter
12v: 12.57
5v: 4.92
3.3v: 3.19volt

this isn't really a problem, but when raising voltages the PC hangs. I know this is on my own risk, I realise what I'm doing.

when raising the CPU voltage to e.g. 1.88 volts (real voltage, 1.85V in bios) the PC hangs when loading windows. this is NOT the fault of the cooling nor CPU. the PSU always worked well so I don't suspect it

when raising the GPU voltage (with a voltmod), the PC hangs during 3D applications like games or benchmarks. once again, this is NOT because of the vidcard. with the previous owner (who also voltmodded the card) and my previous mainboard it worked fine

So I pose the question: do I have a malfuncting mainboard, because my voltage rails are really bad and when raising the load on the mainboard (raising the voltage) the PC hangs?

short answer.
Asus does not support overclocked machines.
That's the respons I got from Epox when I asked them about a simple error reporting bug (the bios gives a VERY loud beep trough the AC97 codec) They also shoves this off as not supported because my system was overclocked. Even tough my problem was with the delivery of the error, and not the error itself.
