Voltage lowering Since i placed a low profile fan (Pabst 80mm 2600 rpm) on my HS (pabst 6045 + adapter) i was not happy with the temps of the CPU (1600XP) running at stock speed. The temps were 48°C - 49°C (normal use). I was sure the default voltage was 1.75V, but to make absolute sure i checked my favourite AMD lookup page. ... as i misread the info in the thermal tables i thought the CPU should work at 1.5V. So i rebooted and wanted to choose 1.5V, but the lowest i could choose was 1.55V ... allwright, F10 ... the box started nicely, no hickups whatsoever ... and it has been running at this voltage for 3 days now ! ... temps dropped 5 °C (attach). 43°C (normal use) is great for a low profile fan. As i read this silencing article this morning i think it's really worthwile to unlock the CPU, keep stock speed ... but at higher FSB. Excellent CPU power + low voltage = silence = happy me. This weekend i gonna try some voltage lowering on my other box, an XP1800 agoia |
Yeah, yeah, pic with load temps 47°C in an Aopen with no casefans ... looks OK to me. |
I'll try this out on my p4 just before mm7 when I put the alfa with papst fan back on. @ 1.3 volts or so |
HWFaq ownz you all again, check added links from yesterday :p |
Doesn't work with XP1800+ ... 1.7V is the lowest stable there. Wonder why it works on the XP1600+ and not on this one. Or it is an error on the mobo. |
I can't choose anything lower then 1.5 volt for my P4 cpu :( but temps are allright, even @ 1.7v i dont get above 50° , which is quite nice I think (alpha + ngm) |
I accidentely did the same thing a couple of weeks ago: I installed my new 1.2ghz duron, and in the bios (Abit - softmenu) i saw the core voltage at 1,75. Woheey, and turned it to 1,55. Then i started overclocking. Did about 1260mhz, and then it crached. Temps were..eurm let me think.. something around 35°C with my $2 heatsink/fan |
