Which to take Opteron 144 <-> 146?

I know a shop where they have a Opteron 144 in stock but i wanted a 146. Those will be available mid January they say.

Now is my question wait until mid january or buy now a 144?

Are the 146 better OC'ers or do they just have a higher multi?

Thx

English is not my native language ;)

And it's a case of luck, no one can tell which one will overclock better ;)

CAB2E 0545CPAW

Any good?

I'm gonne test it tomorrow.

jmke 21st December 2005 17:43

I doubt it will go to 2900Mhz like your venice

Violator 21st December 2005 18:32

2.9Ghz :D

30.125 sec

3Ghz -> blue screen after 20 seconds (Ram is getting fairly high 273Mhz) but i tested it with 266Mhz divider and it was the same.

2.9Ghz is stable with widow open ;)

2.8Ghz is perfect stable with normal room temperatures.

Maybe when he's burn in, i'll get some better results.

jmke 21st December 2005 18:33

very interesting:) I ordered the same CPU, from the same shop:)

Violator 21st December 2005 18:40

He had still 2 CPU's left in stock. And a backorder for 15 more 144's. He hoped they would arrive by the end of this week.

I do not really know if he would sell the last two untill the others has arrived, because he said he would kept them for his own to make servers :D

jmke 21st December 2005 19:02

I ordered mine at noon, got confirmation through Live Support on the site that he'd put one aside for me:)

Sidney 21st December 2005 20:07

damn good price too. Let us know how well it clocks up.

jmke 21st December 2005 20:14

€185 shipping incl. cheapest A64 S939 at closest shop is ~€160

Violator 21st December 2005 20:45

€166,98, if you live in Ghent :-), for a Opteron 144 @ 2.8Ghz on air 32M Pi stable. Not bad i guess :D

jmke 21st December 2005 20:50

my opteron should arrive here too(next month)

jmke 22nd December 2005 15:50

it will go in minITX MSI ATI board with onboard VGA, don't even know if BIOS has any HTT control :)

so it won't serve for overclocking (yet)

Does your mobo support an Opteron, JMke?
Perhaps BIOS flash?

jmke 22nd December 2005 18:33

I sure hope it does:)

Max OC on air Pi stable

http://users.telenet.be/pietervdb/29.578Pi.JPG

Daily use @ 2.8Ghz 14h Prime stable

I bought Jort-'s TwinMOS BH5 but i can't get it stable @ 245Mhz. He did with 3.3v vdimm. I made the vdimm mod on my A8N but i can't get it stable yet.

jort 25th December 2005 23:14

computersmsa 27th December 2005 23:25

It's just depending of stepping :)

jmke 28th December 2005 00:08

SetFSB for the R480 chipset does not work either; this motherboard was not made for overclocking :/

Violator 3rd January 2006 21:17

It's not a bad cpu. ;)

28.890 Pi

jort 4th January 2006 00:00

kick a bit would you, you didn't bought the ram from me to bench at 209 mhz?

Twinmoss dual channel kit 2X512mb
255 mhz 3.3V 1M
251 mhz 3.3V 4M
260 mhz 3.5v 1M

Violator 4th January 2006 09:15

A8N Sli Deluxe Has problems with 1T, so i have ordered a DFI LP UT SLI DR Expert. No more troubles with getting high Vdimms and high 1T speeds. If only they would deliver a bit faster DFI/Bytes@Work.

I hope this shop is reliable because i already paid, and i didn't get any conformation of my payment.

jort 4th January 2006 12:38

yeah waiting sucks, i have 4 mach's to mod and still no evap's here.

B@W is a good shop, trust me ;)

:-)

Sidney 5th February 2006 19:55

What did you manage to block out the voltage?

jmke 5th February 2006 19:56

I don't understand the question? should that "what" be a "how" ? :)

in CPU-Z I DO SEE the voltage, but the online submission apparantly doesn't take it
* with aircooling it's maxxed out between 2700-2750Mhz
* 2800Mhz = crash no matter how much vcore.

CPU is in <50°C region with AC Freezer (none pro)
