Stida's overclocking topic
 

Hey all!

However I'm not really an overclock-elite-trooper also joined the overclocking contest (we all need a little challenge, don't we??)

My setup:

CPU: Intel Q6600 (B3)
CPU cooling : Scythe Ninja CU
GPU: HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR4 (Sapphire)
GPU cooling : Stock
MOTHERBOARD : Asus P5K (no mods)
MEM: Corsair XMS2 1024MB (*2)
PSU: OCZ 600watt gamexstream

I only have air cooling for this all, but I'll try my best!

For now, the stock results:

I did some runs this morning,
No ultra-high clocks yet, but it's almost 1000 marks better,

For the ones who like to see the system (It's also my normal work station, That's why I didn't take everything out)

So many fans pointed to your CPU heatsink, how did you manage to cool the mainboard northbridge though?

only the black one attached to the heat sink cools the cpu (and it cools the north bridge too, because it blows a bit under the heat sink too).
The blue one on top, pulls the air out of the heat sink too, and blows it on the hot backside of the gfx-card

The blue one on the bottom of the case cools the ram and the north bridge

3D mark couldn't complete the bench (I got a freeze and a lot of artifacts in CPUtest 2), with the cpu @3.2Ghz (400*8) 1.4vcore.
Huray for the vdroop!!!:shrug:

Those are some pretty good runs. First time overclocker (as in to overclock for benches)?

I already did some CPU overclocking (2.4Ghz --> 2.8Ghz for 24/7 stable), and ran a few benches just for fun and the looks :) (who doesn't love 3Dmark graphics??)
I had no experience with GPU overclocking yet.

So yes, first time to overclock for benches

and another (little) update:

I pushed the cpu to 3Ghz (428*7):

GPU stock (800 core, 1100 Mem)

(Cpu 600Mhz extra --> 1430 marks extra)

GPU overclocked (860core, 1200Mem)


The difference isn't really shocking.
In some of the tests, the FPS is exactly the same. And the CPU test is a bit worse, but I think is was just a bit bad luck...

Don't stop Stida, try SetFSB.

Great to see new people liking the oc-scene. Please, oh please, don't stop overclocking when this contest ends :D

@Massman: I don't have enough money to spend on new hardware, but maybe I'll go the cheap oc style like piotke

3.2Ghz worked now (400*8)
I gave it 1.4125 vcore and it did what it had to do (kind of... but I'll explain that later) I also changed the fan configuration a bit (geoffry said something about cooling the northbridge may be getting hot, so I had some testing to do)
during the previous benches, I laid the 'exhaust fan' (the black box above the gfx card on the pictures) on the cpu heatsink, blowing some air to the northbridge. Today I did some testing with my fans, and I noticed it doesn't moves that much air. --> 2 fans vertically on the heatsink and the exhaust fan, so they blew fresh air to the mosfets, northbridge and gfx card.

The result(s):

hmm, not that much marks as I hoped it would be, especially when you look to the previous results....

second run (I changed the GPUcore to 860 Mhz, GPUmem to 1200Mhz using rivatuner)

Notice that GPU-Z doesn't detect the correct speeds (or arent the speeds set when I don't restart???)

And for today the (last) runs:

Spi:


Booted @ 410*8 1.4v in bios (I want to keep it safe because I still need this pc for school) than I used setFSB to raise the FSB to 425Mhz (430 didn't work, and I don't have enough time to test FSB's between 425 and 430, or higher vcores)

For tomorrow: I won't be able to continue, since I'm coming home around 10 pm, and I've got to get up around 7 am the next morning.

Nice results for a B3 on air!

I think I could have done better, with a non-for-normal-use setup ;-)

In fact, I did learn quite a lot about overclocking during this contest :)
