passive h²o cooling I'm selling my high-end h²o setup, but i still have a cheap 600l/h pump and a mediocre cpu waterblock. I don't have a rad anymore, and i'm not planning to get a new one. Do you guys think a 5L reservoir will suffice to cool down a XP1800+ tbred b @ 1833mhz, without the use of a radiator? |
don't think so. instead of a rad you could use a bong to cool your water. |
bong is an effecient way to cool down the water but the sound :o the waterfall noise makes you , do more pippi than you usualy do :super: :^D |
The reason why i don't want to use a rad is because i want it as simple as possible. A lianli midtower isn't big enough to fit a large rad, and still have lots of space, and i don't want to put the rad next to my case because that's just plain messy. I certainly don't want a bong cooler. :p I'll probably give it a shot anyway, if it cools awfull i'll underclock it. :) |
Ice in res, will need to condensation proof block and socket Craig |
he wants it simple :) RB: use a metal reservoir, the res will cool down faster. you even might glue some heatsinks to the res :D |
If you can't put a rad, where are you going to put the 5L res then eh??? I'd put it on top, make a nice shroud for it, and put some airholes in the lian li (ouch gotta hurt if ya screw that one up) suck air out trought it |
i think RB already has the holes for a rad in his lian-li of his previous wc ;). maybe just put a small rad (1*120) and you won't loose the two top bays. |
just take an kl res and just have enough ice in the freezer ( little bags ) and when you see that your temp is high ad some ice greetz |
I mean to put in on top of the case, and not in the top of the case. Get a sheet of brushed alu and make a shroud for it. With rads it's simple, the bigger the better. Instrad of having a huge aircooler you transport the heat via the water to someplace else. That being the rad. If you use just a res, you'll need someway of cooling the res, which is very clumsy and/or dangerous (Ice->condensation). You can live without a res on the other hand. |
or make put a oxygen-tank in the ground like the wicked bladerunner:king: . it's worth a try :) due you live at your "kot" downstairs an next to a something you can call a garden:) unless you don't live there anymore :D |

I do NOT want anything extreme! Extreme is fun, but not practical nor silent. Goal: silent & clean solution. SLK900 + 92mm fan = too loud. So air is no go. |
Zalman CNPS7000A, silent powerfull and suited for AMD. Trust me when I say it rocks. |
whatabout radial fans , i don't hear them :D i had a silverado noisekiller thingie. i haven't heard a thing when the fans ran @ 5v buy yourself 2 or 3 radial fans to cool down your slk900. (maybe duron can fix you the fan-part of the aero7+ |
i've had the silverado thingie too. Radial fans are nice, but the silverado sucks. :) |
take a radiator of a car :D i don't think you'll need extra fans 8-) |
Maybe if you take one of a bus. Because the fins are so close together, the resistance trough the fins is pretty high. There won't be a lot of air moving trough them. |
or just put your compu in your fridge :D i'm having a H2O cooling as well and during winter it is possible to let it run at 2Ghz (small OC) without any fans (i've got a P4 1.6A) |
