P965 now supports quad-core- First peek of Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700

This is the first time I get the quad-core processor; maybe the 2007 will be
the first year of quad-core?

The processor I get processor this time is Intl Core 2 Extreme QX6700, runs
at 2.66GHz, we can see if there is any benchmark improvement comparing to
dual-core.

The GBT¡¦s DS3 has been sold last week, the only board on hand is MSI P965
Platinum, Let¡¦s see if the most popular chipset P965 does support or not.

Testing Platform
CPU:INTEL Core 2 Extreme QX6700
MB: MSI P965 Platinum
DRAM:CORSAIR Dominator TWIN2X2048-8888C4DF
VGA:MSI NX7900GT-VT2D512EZ
HD:Seagate 7200.7 80GB
POWER:Corsair HX620W Modular Power Supply
Cooler:TT Sonic Tower

the setting of non-overclocking
CPU 2.66G
DARM DDRII800 CL3 4-4-9
VGA 350/1320mHZ

for general usage, there is not many software support quad-core computing
I take the Everest the main reference of processor performance

CrystalMark

PCMARK2005

the 3D performance with 7900GT

the overclocking setting
CPU 333X10=>3330Mmhz
DARM DDRII1000 CL3 4-4-9

then we goes to secret Wind-series VGA¡K

the quad-core processor shows amazing performance under the benchmark
software which is supporting multi-core computing

it shows almost double speed than dual-core in benchmark
I remember last year when the dual-core processor goes to market, there are
a lot of consumers worried about the supporting from OS& software.

After a year, we see more and more OS& software supports dual-core.
I believe that the software supports quad-core computing will become more
and more.

it¡¦s looks like the P965 Express chipset can fully support quad-core processor,
the consumers do not have to change their motherboards too quickly.

But the TDP of full loading quad-core computing is not quite low, I suggest to
choose the better components equipped motherboard ( 4-phase PWM or
above)
The sepc and components of MSI P965 Platinum is quite well, and the price is
lower than competitors, unfortunately the limit of FSB overclocking is only
going to 340~350MHz¡K
We look forward the launching of quad-core and further situation, windwithme is going to next testing¡K
