OCZ PC4200, waste of money ? |
latencies are less important, but they do still count, since PAT is actually a cummulation of more aggressive memory/system bus timings, running your memory at high FSB with low timings will result in the best performance. CL2-2-2-5 is extremely good, if you get a stick that does 250 @those timings you'll be in way up there. BH5 chips with 3.2v vdimm should be good :) what vdimm voltage are you running at? are those the best timings on that ram? remember that P4 aimed memory is not that good at low timings, at least not those currently on the market, high speed + low timings is not yet for tommorow I think. |
I understand, only I din't expect a result like that. vdimm is 2.85, higher is not possible without vmod. I think these are the best timings, it had errors @ 2.5-4-4-7. this sucks. |

why do you think I'm stickin to my memory? and what will you do with pc4200 when in three months the a64's will have such an advantage on the intels that you need to change camps? your pc 4200 will have no advantages on pc 3700... no athlon64 or fx setup will go above 240 fsb... |

Being a new core, i don't think a 300fsb (2@3Ghz) will be uncommon in a few months. Intel chips overclock great, but the lack of multiplier settings seriously screws up the fun. You have to have the perfect mobo and ram to go with your processor, and you never know up front how well each component will overclock. :( Intel P4 with HT and > 3ghz is a great and fast chip, but the whole "buy a P4, set it to 250fsb and 4/5 mem and you're golden" is bollocks. Tuning an athlon XP is easy and fun. Tuning a P4 is expensive and irritating. |
290? hmm, with what cooling? haven't seen many nice overclocks on athlon 64's yet... and moreover, more fsb on a current a64 doesn't imply much greater power... |
Well, depends on what we mean with "fsb". Hypertransport or memory controller? Charlie at xtreme uses dry ice for benchin... not the most permanent cooling solution. :) |
yes, oc's above 290 FSB are great, except... if it's with a prometeia or dry ice. I'd like to see such oc's with air or simple h2o cooling, that would be interesting. |
does a peltier count?;) |
well, everytype of everyday transportable and usable cooling counts... |
ok, now I know this memory doesn't suck that much. I've tested it, and it will stay in my system until I change back to AMD :p some new scores : |

For 512mb sticks, that's not bad at all! |
That looks quite good, you're hitting your ceiling on the prom+3.0 beautifully at 1:1! If I weren't totally timevoid and totally gamehungry, I'd go buy myself a mach2 in the shop @ 7 km from my home, they have them in stock :) but the thought of having to take 40 minutes again to dismount all this stuff and mount it into a prom again, and having to dismount it again in two months coz i'm taking my pc for januari-gamingholiday to my girlfriend app, that thought actually gives me shivers... :) |
yep, can't go any further then this. trying to get those latencies down is the next step. let's hope it works, then I'm @ the top of this system. ps, now I'm able to game on 4 Ghz, what didn't work before ? strange, didn't know my ram was holding me back a while ago... this rocks !!! BF 1942 8xAA and 16xAF, never below 100 fps :grin: do I need to mention that my ATi card is overclocked to 460 - 370 :p |
269 -> 274 jump.. how come? |
the mobo wouldn't boot higher then 266 fsb, did a cmos and everything was fine, don't know what was wrong in the bios, but it did the trick. it boots @ 280 fsb @ 1.75v, but doesn't get in to windows to do some benchmarking. need 1.9vcore to do so, and that's a bit to high for the moment :p |
2.4C @ 12 x 292 MHz FSB = 3500 MHz with stock intel cooler over here ^^ with 5:4 divider that is ... . |
I'd contact OCZ and ask to retrun the memory. I ran my PC4200 at 285FSB with PAT enbled for months, and never had a crash, all using only 2.85VDIMM. I also got my highest Bandwidth with their 4200; |
