nice 2.8c...

Just bought a second hand P4 2.8C to replace my amd rig.

I'm impressed. This is with a silent(!) casefan on a slk900 and stock volts. :)

Gamer 4th November 2003 18:12

nice one,
like to trade it with a 3 Ghz ?

does 3.5 with stock heatsink.

RichBa5tard 4th November 2003 18:20

Why? You want higher fsb?

Gamer 4th November 2003 18:25

it could hit 4 ghz, so with 285 fsb (with luck 1:1) you got a killer machine.

just asking, not for sure I'll do this, because I know for sure this one hits 4100 mhz.

jmke 4th November 2003 18:33

3600 - 2800 = 800Mhz OC
3200 - 2400 = 800Mhz OC

so this P4 2.4C is "nice" also? :p
I was hoping for 3.6Ghz with the 2.4

also on silent aircooling it ran 3.2 stable

Gamer 4th November 2003 18:40

yep, nice :p

just everything above 3.5 ghz looks alot better.

jmke 4th November 2003 19:06

a royal @ you my friend :p

piotke 4th November 2003 19:16

hmm, I bought richy's p4p800 VM today, after 3 trains or so eh ;-)
Also bought a 2.6 "c"

Anyways, if I set cpu to 250 fsb and my mem to 200. I get huge Vcore fluctuations, going from 1.536 till 1.601

In sandra my mem bandwith is "only" 4300 Mb/sec.

I have the feeling that my amd is faster ...

Any secret Trick I missed in bios maybe ?

btw, chipset drivers, dets, all coorectly installed

edit: I have HT enabled, maybe disable it

jmke 4th November 2003 19:27

3.2ghz is not bad ;)
but can be better

that bandwith is good no? for mem only at 4300?
what timings?

use clockgen for fast fsb changing in XP

I expected more...
timings, 8-3-3 cas 2.5, something like that

No other choice, bios doesn't support fsb overclocking

edit1:
intel p4 2.6, fsb 250, mem 200
amd 2420 Mhz, 11*220 fsb, mem sync

AMD is faster.

edit2: bah, expected a real boost, but nopez, worst 300 € spent.

jmke 4th November 2003 21:17

I found my P4 1.6@2.4ghz to be faster then my XP1.4@1.8ghz

piotke 4th November 2003 21:31

I haven't really worked on it, ony 3d marked. With my mx480, the amd is exacly 100 3dmarks faster

Re-Install XP on that system

you'll notice the difference, P4 is faster in my humble opinion

piotke 4th November 2003 21:45

It are 2 total separate systems.

both have fresh xp install (amd = 1 week ols install, p4 1 day).

tomorrow i'll use the intel for normal tasks

jmke 4th November 2003 21:53

that HT will show its mussle :)

RichBa5tard 4th November 2003 23:21

I agree with jmke, amd platforms are fast for single tasks (eg; a game°, but when running multiple things at once the intel with HT is notacibly faster.

piotke, I can't remember exactly what you have to do, but i haad the same problem in the beginning. I think you need to set a particlar bios option to "1T" to have a huge boost.

Funny you mention the vcore fluctuation, I always found it rockstable with my 2.6C. These IS7's i've got here are a real pain in the ***: they undervolt 0.07v under stress. :/

piotke 5th November 2003 17:03

hmm, cpu is doeing already 3317 Mhz 3d marks stable, still no vcore adjustments.

piotke 5th November 2003 21:01

lol; sold

wondering,

what to buy:

2*256 pc3200 corsair
2*256 pc3200 geil

p4 2.6c
p4 2.8c

abit is7 any good ? 105 € new :)

second pc :)

vegeta 5th November 2003 22:27

hmmz what particular option? :)
only thing i can find is something do to with agp :(

piotke 8th November 2003 14:56

somewhere in chipset settings
just below the memory timings, and just above the on board VGA settings.

btw, I found out what caused the Vcore fluctions :) Crappy PSU :)

jmke 8th November 2003 16:24

most fluctuations are due to PSU probs, which one are you using now?

piotke 8th November 2003 16:31

I have a chieftec 360 watt...

but I used a no name 300 watt for that p4 setup, max i got was 3317 Mhz, teki allready got it over 3.4 Ghz....

crap, really, not happy that I sold it :(

Yeah, i think that was the one. I thought it had to do with the integrated VGA card, but even without using it, it gave a big performance boost.

teki 9th November 2003 17:27

hmmz indeed, gives a nice boost although it looks like it's something for the onboard vga

too bad my apacer with crappy infineon chips runs only @ 250 4/5 2.5-3-6-3 :(

u don't happen to have the i/o bracket ? the one from my old amd doesn't match the holes from the p4p800 and i can't find one here in antwerp
