Default More G.Skill 2GB HV results :)

Here is another testreport of this 2 GB Dual Channel DDR500 Kit:

G.Skill 2GBHV

F1-4000BIU2-2GBHV
Specs:
* Package : 2048MB kit (2x1GB) dual channel pack
* CAS Latency : 3-3-2-8 (PC4000)
* Test Voltage : 2.6~2.8 V
* PCB Board : 6 Layers PCB
* Speed : DDR 500MHz (PC4000)
* Voltage : 2.6 V - 2.8 V

* IC's : Infineon CE-5

$259.00 ($219.00 after $40.00 Mail-In Rebate) @ Newegg

I have tried to finetune this memory to the max. But advanced memory tweaks did not seem to have a positive influence.

Facts about 2GB HV:

- This memory is a competer. It will show all its power until you reach its max stable overclock, you will directly see this (no boot/3derrors).
- 3D apps (like 3dmark) are a better test for stability then Superpi32M for this memory.
- Systemconfigs with ATI cards will get black screens (and VPU recover/ Directx errors) in 3d when the memory is generating errors.
- Systemconfigs with NVIDIA Cards will show artifacts 3d applications.
- TRFC (row refresh cycle time) has to be at least 14 to get the best result.
- Loosening the TRCD and TRP timings don't seem to have any influence in overclockability.
- This memory will slightly react (1 or 2 Mhz) on increasing the VDIMM (2.80V seems to be its hotspot here).
- Changing advanced memory timings will not lead to a higher overclock.
- Command per clockcycle disabled (2T Timings) doesn't give any boost.
- A little airflow over the memory improves its stability (after I turned of the memfan, 3dmark failed). A 3000 RPM fan will not result in higher clocks then 1000 RPM.

TEST SYSTEM

This is the same system I have used for this review: http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticle&articID=350

PSU: Tagan 480W U1
Mobo: DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D, bios 3-29
CPU: AMD Opteron 146
VGA: ATI X850pro @ XTPE
HD: 2x WD 1200JB Sata2 @ Raid0

OS: Windows XP x64 UK

Coolsetup:
Watercooling @ CPU/VGA (nexXxos Hp pro/alphacool 900 pump/ evo 360 rad)
NB47J @ nf4 + low RPM fan
Low RMP ledfan @ memory

SOME RESULTS

Memtest+ 1.65
3dMark 2005 v1.20
SuperpiMod (tested with 16M/32M, only screens with 16M)

Default Timings: CL3.0-3-2-* 1t, 3D/Superpi/Memtest Stable

258Mhz CL3.0-3-2-7 1t [Memtest]

CL2.5-3-2-* 1t, 3D/Superpi/Memtest Stable

239 Mhz CL2.5-3-2-5 1t [Memtest]

CL2.0-3-2-* 1t, 3D/Superpi/Memtest Stable

216Mhz CL2.0-3-2-5 1t [Memtest]

Prime

Conclusion:
At this moment, this is the best 2GB DDR1 kit which G.Skill has to offer. It's specifications are very good.
Overclock results are also good. Compared to some other 2GBHV / Infineon CE-5 based memory kits, there is not so much headroom above these specifications (8 MHz). But, just like every memory/cpu/gpu , luck is a big keyword.

The same as 2.5-3-2-*

At 2.5-3-3-*, 2.5-3-2-* or 2.5-4-4-*, it all reached 239 MHz as max stable clock.
