The-Mod-Go-Round

Ok, I built my new computer. New case, mobo, processor and so on. My 8 yrold son wanted my old processor, board and so on. Who could blame him. His was a great little computer with a P-3 866mhz prossy in it along with an Albatron 4280P vid card. 2x40 gig hdd's and so on So i slipped all my old into his case. Now that left my old case and his old processor in pieces in the shop and in the sun room and the dining room and in the computer room. the little woman was not happy :( . as if that really matters!! Now when on the phone with my sister-in-law I find out the her grand daughter was told that a lot of her 8th grade class assignments were going to be done on the net. She has no computer!! Uncle WeldZilla to the rescue! So I took my old case and started doing a little Sprucing up. so I can give her what is now all our spare parts into one nice little system.
First a little sanding and priming.

Painting

Now to shoot the inside of this old case. She loves blue!! So it is dork blue inside.

More painting

I thought I would contrast that with some very light blue on the outside!

Okay, DAd.

jakkerd 26th April 2004 17:44

WeldZilla 27th April 2004 00:52

Thanks, I know she will love it as much as I love doing it. You see I admit it, "I am a mod addict". I don't need help!! I just need more to mod. " Why put off til tommorrow what you can mod today!!

Still going

Today I painted the PSU and I took some generic black fans and painted them the same color as the outside of the case to contrast with the dark blue of inside. I did the 2 bottom fans and the blow-hole fan this way.

I went ahead and installed the mobo tonight also. It's an Abit VL-6. The processor is a P-3 866

The Case

This case is an Ahanix, Sante Fe, It was $28 has a removable mobo tray it just swings out and lots of bays. It is a little tight but, it really is easy to work with.

will the fans be hooked up to a rheobus which allows them to be turned off ? ;)

otherwise that little ol PC might not be used as often.. girls are pretty picky when it comes to noise while "working"/"studying"

WeldZilla 27th April 2004 23:38

Hmmmm? you know I never thought about that. you may well be right. so I will do a little cyphering on this and see waht i can come up with. I was going to put in a Vantec fan controller panel. However it might be wise to set up a system where she can shut them down.

don't forget dust filters for those in-take fans, those 2 at the bottom will turn that case into a vacuum cleaner ;)

WeldZilla 29th April 2004 03:24

Windows time

Ok, This is my fastest thrown together system ever!! Well here it is getting XP-Pro installed. And yes jmke I will throw a couple filters on those 2 bottom fans. I also installed a Vantec fan controller and it is running both cool and quiet! So I am very pleased with me again.

Thanks Starflam, that was my fastest mod/build ever. It came out real nice. She has always been a very special little girl to me. used to spend every summer with us. So for me it was a labor of love!

it feels good to get present's, but it's feels mush better to give them !

but thats my humble opinion ;)

You are both humble and correct. What could be better than to give a gift you made, or at least modified and assembled yourself.
For me that is that is where it is at. I won't actually be there when she gets it and I am bummed about that. But what really matters is that she will get it!

Hey,
I'm not as talented as you are; I remember I built a 386 for my kid in 1992 when she started College.
My youngest is graduating next month; I just finished a P4 3Ghz for her. Then, I am thinking there will be no more college tuition from now on......
Great work, and "nice" work.

FreeStyler 1st May 2004 17:14

I have to say I like this case better then your own.
The quality of work is exellent on both, but I'm just more a fan of the regular PC case.
Colors have come out pretty nicely too.

WeldZilla 2nd May 2004 07:06

If you are a fan of the more traditional cases then my next mod may make you physically ill!!
