Flashing the 9800Pro to 9800XT

used this bios to do it (it's one with only 128mb in the rom, not the original 256mb).
and it works.
result :
a gain of 300 points in 3D03, only artifacts in game 2 and 3.
this is not memory frequencie related, because my ram can do much higher speeds than that, and had the same problem on 380/340 speeds.

if you like to try it, use this guide to flash your bios.

worth a shot if you ask me.

FreeStyler 6th January 2004 21:52

gotta love those artifacts. (worthless)
So basically it works, but it failed.

jmke 6th January 2004 22:22

"only artifacts in game 2 and 3."

hmm what's the benifit of those? ;)

Gamer 6th January 2004 22:54

nothing :)

it looks like checkers (haven't seen one in my life so... ), not artifacts.
artifacts are white dots in your screen, this looks something different.

games are running better (don't know why), so it stay's that way :)

FreeStyler 7th January 2004 09:51

artifacts is anything that shouldn't be.
The checkerboard pattern is slightly comparable to the R9500=>R9700 mod.
Probably only one or two pixel pipelines that have problems.

Tum0r 7th January 2004 12:18

Would u say it's good for a '9800SEsoftmodded to a pro' ?

Gamer 7th January 2004 12:27

if it can run on 412/365 I would say give it a go.

Tum0r 7th January 2004 12:57

after the mailman gives me my card and I hav played for an hour or 2 or 3... i'le just might do that

Gamer 7th January 2004 13:09

good luck :)

gaddster 22nd January 2004 23:54

yes good luck indeed. I tried this on my HIS IceQ 9800 pro and ended up with so much corruption & chequers on screen that I thought I'd totally broke it. Flashed it back and all was ok so be careful !

The Senile Doctor 23rd January 2004 06:05

if I see artifacts : I don't need it...

Gamer 23rd January 2004 18:32

what I know now is that the XT bios is a modded PRo bios.
so, it's no use doing the flash.
it gives you an extra 300 points in 3D03, that's all.

The Senile Doctor 23rd January 2004 18:55

and I for one don't care about 300 marks in 3d03.
:)

I do care for 20 fps in farcry however ;)

piotke 12th February 2004 06:09

300 point are due to the higher clocks ? you haven't benched on the same clocks before & after ?

Evangeliz 17th February 2004 15:42

Here some other bioses :

http://www.3dmaxx.net/articles/xtflash/files/bios.shtml

I'm going to try it and see what it gives.
But first I'm going to test if it clocks to the required speeds.

piotke 18th April 2004 11:41

Just flashed my 200 € sapphire 9800 Pro to an XT, works perfectly, after 3 loops of 3d mark still not a single artifact..

187(V)URD@ 18th April 2004 12:31

mhh gonna try that on a CLUB3D 9800PRO

Can i Flash my gf4ti4200 in a 6800Ultra ? :king: :super:

agent #2 18th April 2004 13:03

Mine worked 2 but I have the same artifacts in game 2 and 3 in 3dmark 2003.

Gamer 18th April 2004 19:57

known fact, but there is a solution.
use the omega drivers and the artifacts are a lot less.

agent #2 18th April 2004 21:37

Yeah, i got those. I don't know if it are really artifacts but it are these lines with sharkteeth (mostly black) on it. Ow yeah, the last test he got those to.

FreeStyler 19th April 2004 18:01

if it can run ALL tests in aquamark flawless (you'll need a pro licence) you're good.

It does take about 5 days to do it, and the logfiles equal about 1.2 GB of HD space. (300MB rarred, if anyone is interested)

kutteke 12th May 2004 16:49

it's because you have an r350 chip and flash to xt
thats why you see the checkers
game test 2 and 3 are shader intensive
and xt has optimized shaders that's why u score higher
however some cards (especially sapphire) have been using the r360 cores on 9800 pro pcb's and this will make the flash work
but without any extra features
for myself just bought a sapphire 9800 pro 128

and i found that it has a r360 core+ 9800xt pcb :o

also the stock cooler on it was the same as the 256mb version of the 9800 pro

and uses hynix 2.5ns memory

non-flashed i was able to overclock to 445/385 mhz WHITOUT ANY MODS OR ARTIFACTS :king:

i'm going to flash next week because i'm short off time right now :)

i'll let u guys know something ;)

because the same pcb and r360 chip i should get overdrive enabled :) don't u think?

agent #2 12th May 2004 17:13

That card is a bomb! :o
