First Oc try.

I was wondering what my system could do, so I started to do some research about overclocking. After some trying here's what I've got : ( system : sig )

3.36 GHz

Fsb : 240MHz, Multi : 14 ( duh ), performance mode : turbo, DRAM frequency : 320 ( I guess this means a 5:4 RAM divider? ), agp/pci locked @ 66/33.

Everything else standard, including video and mem timings ( latter one I don't really understand, so I just set it to SPD ;) ) Using all the latest drivers, except for the catalysts ( 3.7 ). Gonna try the 3.9 now.

Video :
-mem : 338MHz
-core : 378MHz

I think everything is stable, tried a sandra 2k4 bench, ran both 3d marks couple of times, no problems at all... temp idle : 33°, load : 45° ( I think )

3d2k1 : 18540
3d2k3 : 5831

On the website of my vid card ( www.connect3d.com ) I saw that my mem speed should be 680MHz and "engine" speed 380MHz. I suppose my mem is running correctly? Because it's DDR mem and 338 x 2 nearly is 680...

How can I check if my system is completely stable? Prime or something like that? Where to get and what settings?

Thx!

run prine & 3d mark (looping) for 5 or 6 hours

a quick run of Super Pi or Pifast is a good and fast check if your system is stable

I could run F@H without any crash, but Super Pi crashed

prime and folding at home together for a hyperthreaded cpu for 6 hours, if that stixx, you have 100% cpu stability (run them both! they will use up more cpu power then any of them alone, I see temps 5° higher with prime+f@h then prime alone

then you test the gpu with runs of 3dmarks, running background prime or f@h doesn't matter any more

this way you're sure which component freaks out on you if it crashes

Catalyst 3.9 results in a slight decrease in 3d2k1, haven't tried 2k3 yet.

Pi calc : ( 1M ) 44s
Not bad I think?

What would be a good oc for my system? I already think 560MHz is quite a lot, but I see ppl like Gamer etc with +20k 3d marks. How the hell do they do it??

My guess : I should try oc'ing the vid card? ( which I'm not gonna do, too expensive + Zalman, don't trust that thing 100% )

Gonna try pushing the cpu further when I have the time, I think it can do more

btw idle temp dropped to 30°c ... Is this possible?? That's 1° lower than my case temp... Measured by mobo moni 5 latest version...

don't push it further if you haven't tested it first, you want a stable system I think...

why do people like me and gamer go over 20000 (or in my situation 22k and gamer 23k) : because we have exotic cooling
powerful watercooling (my set costs 800 euro) or phase change (about 1000 euro for the cooler)

Holy mother of... I thought I was spending a lot of money on my SLK900 with Papst.

Oh well, then i'll be happy with my 18k score. lol

So Cpu power / fsb speed is quite important for those 3d mark scores...

Ok, I'll try if system is completely stable first. Can u guess from where I'm gonna get in trouble? I think my RAM is going to be the first to start whining... Had to choose between 1 gig Twinmoss or 512 mb Corsair, chose wrong to Oc I guess. ( Already knew it at the time, but I didn't think I was gonna Oc this comp. )

I mostly can run superpi without any problems, and then the system is stable for daily use, but more advanced 3d and my computer reboots. so i say, 3d mark is more a stability test also :)

The Senile Doctor 21st November 2003 18:19

not when your gpu is clocked at default and the system is prime+f@h stable...

i tought that superpi tests the stability off the mem, ain't I right??
