Can't boot after overclock

Hi

I am having a serious problem with my pc after overclocking it.
These are my system specs:

Thermalthake Kandalf case
MSI K8N Neo2-54G
AMD64 3800+ Venice
XFX Geforce 6800 Ultra
OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev.2
OCZ Modstream 520W
Aerocool GT-1000 heatsink
Maxtor Diamondmax 9 SATA HDD 200G
Liteon CD-RW 52x-24x-52x
Pioneer DVR-109 16x Dual layer
Aerocool Gatewatch
Logitech MX-518 Gaming Mouse
Logitech X-530 5.1 speakers

Here's my problem:
When I put my multiplier to 9x and HTT on 300 using the 200:166 divider everything worked fine.
But when I tried 8x340 my system wouldn't boot anymore.
Nothing seems to work anymore. When I push the power button HDD stats spinning, fans spin, cpu cooler spins but the screen stays black.
According to the leds on the D-bracket connector that came with my mobo my CPU is either damaged or not installed properly.
Could I really have killed my CPU?
Only gave 1.400v+5% and temps didn't go above 42°C.
I did forget to lower the HT frequency(was at 3x).
I've only had this PC for about a month so I am really pissed right now.
I really hope that it's my mobo and not the CPU because I can pick up a new mobo for like 120€ or so.

Can someone please help me fix this because all my effots at getting this thing to work again have failed and I'm out of idea's.:(

340 is probably way to high for your motherboard (and maybe memory = @282mhz then).

Try to clear the CMOS, so you can start again using stoch settings.

I've tried this already but it doesn't seem to work.
Also tried using a boot-up disk but didn't work either.
The screen just stays black.

340 is around the top of this mobo, mine gave bleuscreens around 335.

Do you still have the hdd's at postscreen?

Nemesis 14th July 2005 20:35

Don't have postscreen. My monitor looks like its in sleep state(led is orange). The sreen just stays blackMoving the mouse doesn't do anything, neither pressing any buttons.
I also tried ramming the Del button hoping that I would be able to enter the bios.
Also removed battery for 2 hours and put it back in but still no post.:(

Tried disconnecting all unnecessairy hardware butt still no postscreen.
Is there a way to test if my cpu is really dead without having to put it in another system?
I only have one PC and my mates all have Intel systems.

Nemesis 15th July 2005 16:12

I found someone who tested my CPU and it seems to be working properly.
Gonna order a new mobo tomorrow but I don't know which one I to buy.The same one I have now(k8n neo2) or a DFI Nf3 Ultra-D.
What would you guys buy?

Rutar 15th July 2005 17:50

lmao, DFI vs MSI

that's like Ferrari vs Yugo

do a longer bios reset.

and do it all: set jumper to clear cmos, remove battery, remove powercord, try to start the pc a couple of times when powered down. remove or even change the memory (if you can).

leave it like that for half an hour or even the whole night. then try again.

Nemesis 15th July 2005 19:54

Just ordered the DFI Lanparty nF3 Ultra-D.
I read that there are quite a few problems with this mobo but these should be resolved by installing the latest bios so noi worries there. My MSI board was a K0408xxxxxx so not a very good overclocker and finding a K0410xxxxxx or a K0411xxxxxx is to much of a hassle.
