amd 3000 problem

im having problems overclocking.im new to it so dont laugh.i currently have it set from 1.8 to 2.0

case: thermaltake armor

motherboard:soltek k8tpro-939

psu:500w i dont know what kind though

memory:xms 512 pc 4000:timing is 3.0 4 4 10

cooling:asetek triple radiator water cooling

graffix:geforce 6200 water cooled/w heat sinks on memory

bios:phenix award

i have my vcore set at like 1.6 the vdimm is at like 2.7 my memory is set to 166. i upped the frequency to 223 which gave me 2 gigs.now i ran the torcher test for like a day and it said 1 error.now when i run the 3d mark test it wont work my computer reboots.i dont know if i can lock the graffix card like i keep reading about people doing 66/33 or something.i only saw a setting to enable or disable agp/pci clock.will that work if i disable it.any help with this or if you know a better way please help.also after i up my frequency my computer sometimes says recovered from a error.whats that?

It really doesn't matter what you use for cooling as long as you list CPU temp so that people can help ID'ing the potential problem. Besides, there is practically not much heat from S-939 running 15% overclock and the GForce 6200 is the same.

The way I see it -
1) Memory can be set at 200 making them run at 230 Mhz is below PC4000 rated default speed.
2)
Quote:

i upped the frequency to 223 which gave me 2 gigs.now
What does this mean?
3) AGP/PCI should be locked
4) Recovery from an error or system crashed meaning your system is unstable.
5) 1.6V is high unless you have good CPU temp.

Others may jump in to offer help. By the way, welcome to the forum :)

i meant in the bios it says cpu frequency.i changed it from 200 to 223 to get 2.01g.my temp is anywhere between 40 to 50 c.so like isaid when im in bios i only have a choice to enable or disable pci/agp clock.i should disable it.i also ran my computer for like 36 hours on prime and got 1 error.but like i said when i run 3d mark it wont work itll load up then the screen will go blank and my computer will reboot.thanx for your help and the welcome.

PCI/AGP = enable lock if present

What are the settings in Vcard? Or, reinstall 3DMark.

kdogg23 27th October 2005 00:19

the vid card settings are set to optimal in bios.i havnt messed with that much yet i tried to change it b4 from 128 to 256 but it didnt change when i ran 3d mark it still rebooted.

Read this, may help you understand BIOS settings

thanx im going to try a few things will update in a while.

jort 27th October 2005 06:15

changed you ltd muliplier from 5 x to 3x?

DUR0N 27th October 2005 10:17

soltek k8tpro-939= K8T800 right? Overclocks about as much as my cup of coffee here.

kdogg23 27th October 2005 13:27

i changed the drive strength on the graffix card to max in bios and now atleast i can score in 3d mark before i just rebooted.thanx for the link lazy helped alot with my vid card problem.and yes it is k8t800 pro.i know its cheap but all i could get on short notice.a friend messed up the msi board i had.he got thermal paste all over the board.dont ask me how he just did.im looking into the getting a new board.ASUS A8N32-SLI DELUXE.

If you want to get the most out of your CPU, you'll have better luck with overclocking a DFI board

kdogg23 27th October 2005 15:33

what kind would you suggest.I wasnt looking to spend over 200 cause i also need ram.i saw some nice stuff from corsair.quote:At nearly 438MHz, the new Corsair 3500LL PRO is the first to address the need for high memory density at extremely low latency.the XMS-3500LL PRO is optimized to unleash more AMD based system performance than the competition.2-3-2-6 1t.

jmke 27th October 2005 16:22

try to get memory with Samsung TCCD chips, able to do CL2 2-2-5 1T at 200-210Mhz, that's enough you need to OC

nForce4 SLI from DFI will be fine also, unless you like to "mod" a bit, than the none-SLI nForce4 from DFI is an option also as it can be modified to SLI capabilities (search Anandtech for their article)

thanx.for the info and thanx for this forum i finally got my graffix problem fixed.theres only one thing i still dont know.how do i change the ltd multiplier like jort said.i know go ahead laugh it up its ok.

jmke 27th October 2005 17:02

do you have the manual that came with your board? it should contain a BIOS config portion, if you don't find HTT/LDT multiplier setting in there, than most likely your motherboard's BIOS does not support/allow it.

kdogg23 27th October 2005 17:19

only thing i could find something like that is cpu ratio i can set that anywhere from "startup-default and x4 at 800 all the way up to x20 at 4000 but it wont let me go past x9 at 1800.so i just left it at startup and changed cpu frequency from 200 to now at 245 which gave me 2.2 gig

jmke 27th October 2005 22:05

nope, that's the multiplier of the CPU:)
seems you don't have the needed tweaks to run high HTT/FSB speeds on your board

kdogg23 28th October 2005 04:15

OCZ PC4200 DDR 533MHZ 2048MB 2GB 4x512MB is this stuff good.my friend has it and said hell give it to me for 250.2 gigs is worth it but with having all 4 dimms plugged up wont that cause problems.the timing is like this 533Mhz CL 3-4-4-8.thanx

kdogg23 28th October 2005 04:16

yes its dual channel

Sidney 28th October 2005 04:34

With 4x512, you will have to set 2T in CPC, and with 3-4-4-8 timing you will only slow down your system. Your question has been answered as Jmke outlined. Do what you want, it is your system :)

You don't need water cooling for your system;money saved could be invested on a good vcard; still have money left, go for low latency memory or a good motherboard. That is our recommendation.
