Something different for the modders from SunbeamTech, save yourself the time to spray paint your case fans; the anodized finish in 5 popular colors will give your modded case longer lasting luster look combined with LED effect. If that is not enough, they have additional LED screws to light up your case further.

Anodized fan – I have seen metal anodizing process, but I have never seen applying it to plastic. Well, after some digging I came out empty-handed when my editor showed me how to anodize plastic.

“Our vacuum moralizing department features two vacuum metalizing machines. These machines make it possible for us to coat plastic surfaces with metal, thus greatly reducing the weight and fragility of our products. The vacuum metalizing machines first anodized the plastic parts under vacuum. Then, ionized aluminum is sprayed into the chamber. The positively charged aluminum attaches itself to the anodized plastic, making the metal coating. This is then baked and dried under vacuum to ensure a proper curing process.”

SunbeamTech is using some latest coating technology on the new line of Silent Fan. After scrapping the coating off, I found two things:

1) The coating adheres strongly onto the plastic.
2) The clear base fan is revealed.

It may be anodizing a clear fan will give the luster finish, I can’t approve or disapprove. Neither do I know the difference in between “spray paint” versus “anodizing plastic”. However, the result is excellent.

SunbeamTech offers the fan (frame) in several colors – Blue, Green, Red, Silver and Gold; combined with LED colors – Blue, Green, Red and Yellow.

The fan comes with speed sensor (3-wire) and a 3 to 4-pin connector. The silver wiring is sleeved in transparent tubing making it "easier" for the eyes in a modded case.

Four LEDs are mounted at the corners providing color effect better than the normal clear version in my opinion.

Sunbeam indicates 20.45 dBA and 1,800 RPM rotation speed. My test using CEM DT-8850 digital sound meter with 37.4 dBA sound saturation in test area and ~4" away gave me a reading of 40.20 dBA at 1,890 RPM; 38.7 dBA at 1,600 RPM.
