Cooler Master Silencio 550 Case Review

Cases & PSU/Cases by leeghoofd @ 2012-02-21

With todays powerful hardware components, most computer case designs are mainly focused on maximizing airflow. Sometimes compromising on one vital aspect, which is noise reduction. It's pretty hard to get a decent balance in a midi sized tower between decent airflow and near silent operation. Cooler Master is targeting, with this Silencio 550, those that look to build a silent PC. Yet no compromises are made in build quality, air flow is decent to warrant safe operation and all this with a very affordable price tag.

Unboxing

Typical Cooler Master packaging, remaining very loyal to their box designs and colours. On the back highlighting the main features of this case.

The case is well protected against the sometimes brutal shipping methods of our parcel delivery companies.

This a sleek black design, in fact a perfect replacement of the older Sileo 500 case. The latters design was not really up to 2012 standards. Before we go deeper into exploring the innards of the case, let's show some of the main features of this case.

On top we find one USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port. The usual headset, microphone jacks and a power and reset button. Nice addition in my book is the removal of the eSATA port, instead we find we find a SD card reader. Note  the protective sheet on the front door panel. To reduce noise and vibration Cooler Master has used noise dampening foam on the sidepanels and frontpanel. The foam on the rear sidepanel is less thick to facilitate cable management and better CPU backplate compatibility.
