Default 7-Way 22" Monitors Roundup

This roundup is all about 22inch LCD monitors that have hit the shops but recently. A couple of years ago this diagonal just didn’t exist although 23inch and larger monitors were already available and even enjoyed some popularity. So, we are going to discuss 7 22-inch models from BenQ, Dell, LG and Samsung.

Good info there, the conclusion is revealing

Quote:
First of all, monitors with this screen diagonal are currently produced with TN matrixes only. It means that if you want a monitor with really large viewing angles you’ll have to consider 20-21” or 23-24” models.

Secondly, all the manufacturers released 22” monitors without response time compensation at first (monitors with this screen diagonal have appeared but recently, so the tested monitors mostly belong to the first wave of such products). They have a specified response time of 5 milliseconds as measured according to the ISO 13406-2 standard, i.e. on a black-white transition. Such matrixes are actually not very fast and have an average response of 15-17 milliseconds with a maximum of over 30 milliseconds. This makes them less suitable for dynamic games.

They are too late, THG.fr and hardware.fr. already covered most displays and the lack of the HP 2207 is not acceptable for a roundup (considering how much love it gets in reviews and the fact that it has features most 22" don't have). They do however offer a good covrage of the Samsung panel scandal, but still get beaten as hardware.fr knows all 4 panels.

they do not include the news that LG fixed the WTQ with the latest revivision and Samsung "said" they will only ship S panels now

They should also complain that the TN crap is spreading to bigger sizes where the viewing angles are a bigger problem, you simply aren't safe from it anymore.

the roundup is part one

got any links to the other roundups, don't think I posted em here, .fr sites don't get coverage , few send out news releases, and most people don't understand French or like to read a babelfished article

3 parts already done, no translation yet

http://www.hardware.fr/html/articles...3?categorie=22

the monitors reviewed there usually come up here in an English translation:

1:1 compares:

The Germans do good reviews as well:

http://prad.de/board/board.php?boardid=153

Interesting as addition, the forums contain a massive archive of user reviews that reveal problems that might be missed in a review sample.

I came to the sad conlusion that nothing will satisfy me and I can truly say I've seen it all (and I want a glas front with full alu now (even the 2707 has too much plastic) , stupid iMacs ).

Don't be my young friend. Life is to experience and not just reading.

The fixed WTQs are the best LCD that doesn't involve the panel lottery (and a futuremark user reporting a green bias in the picture of the CW makes me doubt the S panel only CW story Samsung is telling).

Most 5 ms screens would still satisfy most gamers.
