Tip: cool your mosfets

A couple days ago I found these two puppies in my mailbox:

A DD GeForce & northbridge waterblock. :)

Now every component in my rig (except the PSU) is cooled by H²O. Cool & quiet, but other components like my mosfets (those 6 little black cubes near the cpu) get really hot (+60°C) due to the lack of airflow. I thought this shouldn't be a prob because the low-tech nature of it (it controls the voltage of your cpu if i'm not mistaken), but my system kept crashing after a few hours use.

So, i've put little heatsinks on them and placed a low performance fan near it, and now it's rock stable, even when pushed to the max. :)

This pr0lly void your warranty though... does anyone know how to remove traces of AS adhesive in case this mobo ever dies on me?

the cooler the better :D
typically a temp of 25°C gives best results, based on an average of datasheets :)

Any chance of a few pics of the now cooler mosfets ?

the waterblocks look damn sweet :)

what did you have to put on dze tabla exactly for that northbridge WB ?
(taxes + shipping etc)

and is it 3/8" material ?

i'm getting really interested in this stuff since i'm buying your old gear :^)

to remove:
-alcohol (for medical use;) )
-stuff to remove nail polish

you might try anything that removes glue etc.

i'll try it tomorrow in different ways, hang on...

translation of mosfet please

RichBa5tard 24th June 2002 23:59

no idea what the dutch term for mosfet is...

@TA: I would never have bought the northbridgecooler if I had to pay full price (H²O cooling a kt266a chipset is overkill), but I had the chance to buy the DD GF2/3 & nortbridge WB second hand for €60 shipping included, so i did. :)

very nice ... this is part of why you're selling your original WC setup i presume :)

anyh00 ... i'll get my gear tomorrow, still got a few questions to ask though ...

but we'll see ;)

Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor... or mosfet. there are other transistors called JFETs as well. These electronic components are used for regulation, amplification, and even switching.
