Reservoir TECS
 

Now that i have a powerful silent aircooled system it's time to raise the bar and built and even more silent and more powerful system.

I already have sufficient space inside the modded HX45 for a complete watercooling setup.
But switching to watercooling just gives me a maximum 4 to 5 °C "profit" to my current situation ... and that's just NOT enough to justify the effort.

I thought it would be interesting to put a TEC on the waterreservoir. I would put a HS on the TEC and then experiment with different types of fans (silent ofcourse). The outcome being the water inside the system will be around 15°C instead of 25°C.

This way i wouldn't have any condensation problems and i believe the benificial 10°C drop of the watertemperature justifies the effort.

Feasibility, thoughts, donations, fanmail, ... shoot !

what kind of cpu would you cool? amd ?

what tec power do you have in mind?

I'll wait for buying my new rig untill i can buy a SATA + Dual Channel DDR - solution which will replace my home system ... proc : we'll see at that time. I'll figure i have the H2O-case ready when that solution is available.

Then i have a KR7A-R + 1800axia at my disposal to put into the H2O-case and to play around with. Maybe ... if i'll feel a sudden urge of worldwide-recognition-need i'll put in an AMD 2.8 at that time. :grin:

I'd recommend putting the TEC on the radiator
=> larger contact with the water
as I think it may cost some cash (I assume so:p), use multiple rads with some TEC's then...

I've seen multiple ppl with the same idea: none really succeeded. Temps didn't drop 10°C, but 1 to 2°C (i think). It had something to do with unsufficïent cooling at the hot side. You'll need a 65CFM fan AT LEAST to keep the pelt from overheating, or an extra waterloop. Even then, the water must flow fast enough through your reservoir, but not too fast...

It's still fun to do, but very hard to make your temps drop...

If you want to do it the easy & fun way, do as I did: stick a couple waterbottles in the freezer and put them in your res when you feel like overclocking. Makes your temp go down 10~15°C and no costs involved...


You'll see that even when you're not using chilled water, H²O cooling is still every penny worth investing: it's as cool as LOUD aircooling, it's pretty, it's fun to toy with and it's quiet....

The newprize of my case + H²O setup is about the same of a promotheia, and I wouldn't switch it for the world. Who cares if your temps are higher if your case is beautiful, silent and good to overclock?

I knew the hot side cooling would be difficult, that's why i said i wanted to experiment with a quality HS and different fans. As i've drawn it i can put an alpha6045 on the pelt and put an adapter + crafty 80mm papst on it and "duct" it through the plexi door.

But recommended cooling for peltier = water ... and i think i can fit in a second waterloop.

But ... as said .... i'm still reading ...

Hmm, aircooling a TEC and silence is a "no go" apparently.

A second waterloop is an option.

But i'm also looking into placing a second radiator. That won't decrease the idle watertemp, but it'll surely help to get the load temps down.

another option is :

- CPU : waterblock : HS : FAN
- 2 rads

... i'll have the water cooled at 3 places .... comes in handy when coming from the cpu over a rad ... to the graca ... pump ... the other rad.

For maximum efficiency i would choose a waterblock with long "channels" going through it so it would benefit from the HS on top.

Putting a TEC between the waterblock and HS would be difficult to cool with silent air-cooling. Under-powering the TEC so i can cool it would be highly ineffective.
