ain't seen nothing yet :)

TeuS 7th August 2002 20:52

good review, but some remarks
-there are no prices of all cases
-he compares cpu and casetemps... that's all right, but don't compare apples with pears: different brand of fans, different amounts of fans, different places of fans.... and as he considers ppl most often change those fans: a reason more to test the cases with the same fans and if possible with the same amount. and how about the sound level/airflow of _all_ fans (?
-mod-abilities?
-ratings of a) look b)price/quality c) temps (apples and pears...) d) all around

jmke 7th August 2002 21:23

I hope he reads your remarks :-)
cause you have alot of valid points there

prices of the cases can be found @ Comtech site
those are the most up to date :)

- There ARE prices (but maybe not of every case)
anyway, prices always get lower and I don't want to see the review age too soon..
- CPUfan was always the same. About them casefans: I thought I mentioned my thoughts about them..
- why use the same amount? If I had included the fifth case, a low budget case, it would mean I could only use 1 fan in the chieftec case?
I always filled "all holes". And if Coolermaster desides to include casefans, then why would I change them?
- soundlevel: forgot
but then again: I have no professional equipement and if I had tested it with my ears ( :-) ) the test would have been too subjective.
- mod-abilities: I don't care :^)
I mean... a good modder can mod any case, and a good modder can do everything and anything he wants with his case so...
Anyway, a good modder makes his own case
-
a) Subjective => pics included, says enough..
Not enough? go to the shop and take a look yourself
b) That's really included in the text... Maybe you should read it..
c) see above

Anyway, thanks @everybody else for the nice comments
When I have more time, more articles will follow...

blackrabbit and me have never been best mates, so I'll keep calm

I just tried to be critical, and admit I was... there is a lot of crap in your reply but I won't push it too far

if I can borrow zinzin's brand new lian-li, i'll show you how you can improve your case reviews

jmke 8th August 2002 17:21

A challenge for the good!
Teus makes a case review and then we put up a vote :)

Madshrimps visitors will only have more stuff to read, so nothing bad can come from it! :)

go for it Teus

It won't be with my case...

@jmke: good cleaning on the thread, however I still think the motherboard trays remark was very on-topic :)

What remark? Who's remark?

jmke 8th August 2002 17:36

ZinZin:
Back on-topic: very good review, but one omission: the chieftec's (and the Imperial neither I guess) don't have a motherboard tray, which can be a playing factor when deciding which one to buy...

quote review:
"Something that I missed in the Chieftec cases is the possibility to remove the motherboard tray from the case. With the Coolermaster case, it is possible to do that."

That's the one and only mention of it ;) It should be more stressed I think, as my current case (as mentioned lian li :D) has such a tray and I found it very handy to install the system in it.

//Edit: apparently I took much more time to think about the reply :)

Which did you prefer the Aluminium or the Steel Chieftech case... do you think we should invest the 70euro in aluminium? ???

sure!
a) lighter
b) more beautiful
c) easier to mod: lighter metal

@jmke: addtronics or lianli compare? help me choosing lian-li's if you want that compare, I don't know much about the different models:(

jmke 8th August 2002 22:42

the main difference was the weight

if you go to LANs the aluminium will make a big difference, if however you just want to keep it at a fixed location there is not really a valid reason for taking the Alu one, cause temperature wise they are equal

I was taking the picture of the cases with BlackRabbit (my arm is in on the pictures ;) ) and the Chieftec ALU came in 2nd weight-wise

the Imperial is very nice case, but the airflow sux! I have bought one for me from Comtech, and I'm disappointed by the airflow, I have to put a DELTA 5400rpm on my ALPHA8045 to get temps of my XP1700+ @ 1.75v under 40°C idle
In my previous case (HQ45) with 2x 90mm casefans, the temperature was under load 36°C !! and this with a XP1600+@1800Mhz using 1.85v

The imperial is nice, but airflow is a disaster, if you put a fan in the side of the case, you can expect a drop of 10°C easily though :)

hope this info helps you decide!

Bonne lecture... :)

Four Way Aluminium Case Shootout
Published: 07/08/2002 6:22:28 PM
Author: Darrell Wiggins

Madshrimps has got their hands on four aluminium cases for a shootout.

So, the question now is: is the case really worth the money? In my opinion, no... I think they shouldn't include the fans, so the price could get a little lower. I also think that the case should be much cooler because of all the fans. OK, the case is beautiful and the mirror effect is pretty cool. The question I really ask myself is, "do I really need a shining case?" . If you do care about the looks and like the mirror effects etc and/or you go to LAN parties often, where you like to show of with your case, then this is the case for you!.

BlackRabbit 9th August 2002 15:47

ze hebben de review precies ni zo goe gelezen: 4 alu cases? :-)
