2. Try taking the HPC 925 and put it on a board that is in a case (or on the desk in open air but the the heat pipes are still horizontal) so the heatpipes are now horizontal, run the same tests and see what happens....
If you could quickly run this test it would be very nice and informative
I am really thinking about getting a tower HSF but, if i can't have it mounted in my case and get somewhat good cooling its a no go...

Thank you VERY much, good info!

re: #1 My stock HSF runs at the stated RPM and is fairly quiet.
re: #2 see article, I added your requested data.

Intel stock fan has temp sensor; on open bench test air intake temp is lower than "cased" test. Even with copper base S478, Intel Fan could turn upward to 5,000 rpm and makes quite a bang when intake air => 30C. I think that is what "dementer" refers to.

JNav89GT, your few days = few hours .... excellent service.

alright, but generally when I disable smartfan in bios it would just allow fan to run "full blast"

Exactly what i was refering to, when i have my case all closed up after i first installed my nuclear reactor it was going for melt down and i had the fan spin up Über loud
i was mostly just curious with the loudness rating (mostly because of your cool subjective tests ), don't work too hard getting it to termal meltdown temps

Thank you very much for the other temp readings, I had heard that the temps do go to hell and a handbag when you get the heat pipes horizontal
but the review site just said that the temps in the past were not as good, but didn't test to see what the differance was.....

Thanks a lot, I have now found myself going over the [M] website with great detail

newer heat pipe technology overcomes this problem, the first HSF with heatpipes gave 1-3°C difference depending on orientation, I'm referring to the SP-97 and SP-94 here from Thermalright

Heat pipe with Capillary function added the difference of orientation is down to min, some call it wicks.
