Today's computers desire more and more power, and that power has to be clean and stable. For those that want to push their computers a little above their specifications, these devices have become a deciding factor for reaching maximum performance. We have models from Silverstone, OCZ and Sharkoon on our testbed.

There is something illogical in the "Power Comparison of the Contestants" table, page 5.

All PSUs have 18A on the +12V rails, 3A on the +5Vsb rail.

The 700W PSUs give 36A on the 3,3V rail and all give 30A on the 5V rail.

This means the 750W PSU from silverstone is "lacking" 12A on the 3,3V rail alone, and she is supposed to be more powerful?

Well, it is more powerful when you take into account the total load, or the 12V lines (when combined 1-4) by themselves.

But you are right what the 3.3V line is concerned : it has a lower maximum rating than the other two.

To be complete, this is what the lines are used for :
PCI bus - 5v line
AGP bus - 3.3v line
Southbridge - 3.3v line
Northbridge - 3.3v line
Memory - 3.3v line
CPU - 5v (now almost extinct) or 12v line
Peripherals - 5v or 12v line

The power that Silverstone provides for these is more than adequate. It's the stability of the 3.3V line especially which would bring a system to its knees. In my opinion the SIlverstone isn't lacking anything ;)

Still, to really use a 700W+ PSU requires a mad computer setup :-/
