Coolermaster Susurro Athlon 64 Heatsink Review
 

Today we take a closer look at a new Coolermaster heatsink which is aimed at the family/office PC market. A compact design with a custom 92mm auto sensing fan, copper design and easy installation, let's find out if it can pass our stress tests.

I found the price intresting, till I found the Freezer PRO for 13 € with this search engine (WTF?).

I'd say, that's TACO (total and complete ownage).

A basic and simple design. A bit different compared to al those heatpipe monsters that can be found.

Also the price tag is lower.

But the performance isn't much better then the boxed cooler so it seems. So to my opinion, not the best cooler around -and not worth- to change to when you have the boxed cooler.

But when you bought a tray CPU or a second hand cpu without HSF, this seems interesting.

Piotke, the strenght of this CPU lies in auto sensing fan, much like the Asus X-Mars; The CPU fan slows down a lot quicker than the stock A64.

With the CPU running at stock speeds and doing office work, listening music, watching DVD the fan speed remains <1000rpm which translates in utter silence. While with stock cooling, even when CPU is not used at all (0%) the FAN is audible.

I agree that UNDER load this heatsink does not offer a large improvement over stock (if any) but it's not marketed towards performance users either

If the price tag is lower, why does the same price enine used in the review finds it at a lower price in a lot of shops? I also though you couldn't get the Freezer for less but I've been proven wrong.


Also, I wonder how it does vs the heatpipe stock heatsink, I bet coolermaster doesn't even want to think about such a comparison.

Didn't you get one with your X2 CPU? I'm not being an X2 / Opteron Dual Core just to get a cooler for testing:)

But I'm looking into possibilities to acquire one and include it in testing as it's certainly interesting. Lazyman is working on a review of his Opteron 165 stock HSF comparing to another popular product.

easiness of installation and operation are MORE important than PERFORMANCE in this segment. Average JOE doesn't care if his Athlon 3500+ runs at 56°C or 43°C under load. All he cares is having a STABLE PC which does not make noise.

your agruments are valid from a HARDWARE ENTHUSIAST point of view; but that's also why it isn't targetted towards this audience. Coolermaster has Hyper6+ and others in that segment.

Much like saying that Porsche Boxster is crap because it is slower than Porsche 4S ;)

Yes, you get them with 4400+ CPUs and a few others. I would have bought a tray CPU but it's impossible :(

A direct competitor would be the new Alpine line of HSFs from AC and I would say the stock one with heatpipes could beat it or at least make an upgrade obsolete.

hey, if you're not using your stock cooling.. wanna send it over? ;)

Cool and Quit does the same, but better. Sometime the fan just shuts down totally.

how many ordinary users know CnQ?
exactly. Hardware enthusiasts know the feature exists... you also have Q-Fan control in BIOS FYI.
