~33% chance that one of the 4 disables pipelines is broken.

But still, 66% chance you get a 9700 for €180 is worth concidering.

After a little tweaking:

jmke 22nd January 2003 23:59

your Ti4200 has a worthy sucessor, is it RMA'd yet?

RichBa5tard 23rd January 2003 00:05

No, i can't seem to find the receipt. :/

Connect3D 9500 128Mb: 9700 Pro performance for <€200?

http://www.madshrimps.be/gotoartik.php?articID=48

The 9700 (Pro) has proven to be the best performing 3D card for the past half year. However, not every PC enthousiast is willing to spend €400 on a 3D card. Until now the best bang for the buck card in the €150-200 range was the Nvidia GF4 Ti4200, but ATI wanted a piece of that pie too so they released the cheaper 9500 / 9500 Pro.

Is ATI about to dethrone Nvidia in de sub €200 market? Read on... :)

jmke 24th January 2003 22:31

jakkerd 25th January 2003 00:00

very excellent article

Blade 26th January 2003 14:41

Dammit, I'm seriously thinking about buying one of those ...

Let's pray that it isn't one of those 33% chance failing cards :/

fub4r 26th January 2003 20:18

What system is this card running on?

fredperry 28th January 2003 11:14

What happens when you're unlucky and have one of the cards with broken pipelines?
Will the card be wasted than? Or can it still be saved? (read in the article that when you have a problem with that checkersboard thingie you just have to install the new drivers)

btw. nice article :super:

Nope, you won't fisicaly harm the card: just reďnstall regular drivers and the card will work fine as a 9500. :)

@fubar: it's clearly mentioned in the "benchmark" section. XP2400+ (166FSB) & epox nforce˛ & dual channel ddr

Connect3D Ati Radeon 9500

Hi

My new mainboard only supports 4x - 8x agp cards due to a voltage difference. So now I'm looking for a new videocard. I was thinking about the Ati Radeon 9500 made by Connect3D (not the pro version). But since I'm quite the noob on this and don't want to spend money on something that isn't good I first would like to ask you guys a few questions and opinions...

Ok there goes
1. In a review on this site they say a 9500 card can be softmodded to a 9700 card, by enabling pipelines that are originally disabled. Is this still possible, because ATI did have some time now to just remove the disabled pipelines. And is there a way to count the pipelines, can you see them on the card?? If so what do they look like??

2. Is the 9500 (non pro) better than the 9000 pro?

3. Is the tv-out capable of dual display?? Watching TV computer screen and monitor computerscreen at the same time...

4. Is it any good??

5. What is the voltage?? Since according to my mainboard manual I shouldnt use agp cards with a voltage higher then 1.5v or it will blow up/burn some circuits...

Thank you in advance,

Oh btw what is special about..
For
Geheugenlayout 2x naast GPU en 2x Boven GPU!
In english
Memorylayout 2x next to GPU 2x above GPU

Peter

1. Yes. Connect3D 9500 cards have 9700 pcb design and are still capable to be modded to a 9700.
2. yes
3. didn't test it, but I'm sure it is.
4. yes, check the update article. The TV-out isn't perfect, but it's good.
5. it will work

9700 (/9500) pcb desing: 2 chips above / next GPU
9500 Pro pcb desing: 4 chips above GPU

faasie 1st February 2003 18:34

OK I think Ill go for it then, thanks for the info...
If the softmod doesnt work then I still have got quite a good vidcard so... yeah... yup Im going for it...

jmke 1st February 2003 18:47

I'm interested in knowing if the softmod will work for you, please feel free to come back & share that info :)

faasie 1st February 2003 19:32

I will, got to wait at least till next weekend though, haven't got time installing the mobo and stuff before the weekend :(..

faasie 2nd February 2003 11:57

Before I softmod it, does it make the card hotter/generate more heat??

Oh and it is going to be the first time I'm going to install a mainboard myself, any tips or advice?

Watch out with the cards and the processor: don't push too hard..
be VERY carefull with installing the CPU-cooler

Blade 3rd February 2003 07:52

Getting one this evening! I'll keep ya updated ;)

RichBa5tard 3rd February 2003 22:00

I've read at shrimp you had no luck... a pitty. :/

If the checkerboards are not too serious, you could try drivertweaking. Setting Z buffer depth to 16bit and Full screen AA to 4x or 6x helped A LOT with my friends card.

T-power 3rd February 2003 22:29

what was in the package at Loveno
or is it a bulk version

thank you

RichBa5tard 3rd February 2003 22:47

loveno: bulk (card, drivercd, cables & dvi connector)

considering the history, the likelihood of a dead R9500 is almost 100% :^D
