Sorry i took me so long to respond (I was getting ready for my driver's test and I passed today.) But I tried seversl different versions of the Envy24 drivers, and none worked to my knowledge. I have no idea wtfd is wrong with the sound.

Hi V:

I too am confused about the different drivers. jmke mentions the one at the Chaintech web site "Envy24 Family Drivers Package Release Version 1.40" but there are several different drivers at Envy/VIA with very different version numbers.

Thanks, Kerry

Well I searched for older versions of those drivers and found some and tried them. It's wierd though... The yesterday I decided to move my computer and when I rebooted after I set it up, the Chaintech Multimedia Card thing with 7.1 and firewire started to work. The little light next to that wierd audio port lit up. I don't really know how it happened.

That's great that it's working, not great that you don't know how you did it. :

Here's the driver I'm using now. http://www.download.com/VIA-Envy24-F...10289447.html. It's not the version jmke recommends.

I sure wish there was a forum just for us 9jcs users. I have quite a few concerns as to whether mine is optimized. I don't dare begin to mess with tweaking it until I know for sure it's working correctly.

the BIOS settings are quite generic, so if you have questions about the BIOS , fire away

I don't really know.

But on a side note I was reading a magazine the other day (Don't really remember what magazine) and they were doing a competition between the intel P4 3.4 extreme and the AMD Athalon 64 FX whatever thingy yea... but for the system to test the P4 they used the Chaintech 9CJS for the system, because of it's combination of reliability and performance. Doesn't that make you happy to own it?

What's the latest Intel P4 processor the 9JCS can use? I want to keep my eye out for price drops. I have P4 3.0c

Also, is it true that I can use faster than the recommended PC 3200 DDR? I have 1 Gig.

Thanks, Kerry

you will only benefit from faster then PC3200 ram if you overclock the system

default FSB speed: 200Mhz = PC3200 ram

so if you can get your FSB up to 230-240 then PC3700-PC4000 ram will benefit you

Got it. Thanks. I don't plan on trying any radical tweaking.

I'm just this week starting to learn about tweaking, using Apogee, now that I fixed the vVidia driver. Driver Cleaner wowkrd

What's the fastest Intel P4 proc I can use?

Thanks, Kerry
