Battle of the Titans III:Cooler Master Hyper6 vs SP-94

The heavy weight from Cooler Master steps into the ring; shall it rock? does it rule?

Quote:

The new heatsink from Cooler Master is put against the current top P4 heatsink; Will the Hyper6 go directly for the kill, or does the SP-94 put up a good fight? Find out in this review.

Off the topic: The pictures are in excellent quality and sharp.

thanks! almost getting used to my new digicam :)
did you check my Hyper6 wallpaper? :)

They should have tested the sp-94 with the vantec tornado 92mm and Delta 92mm before saying that hyper6 is the best cooling solution. I'm sure they'd change their opinion. ;)

apples with apples.

If I hook 2x Tornado fans to the Hyper6 it will best the SP-94 with 92mm Delta :)

1 kg is just insane....

not that long ago people complained about the +500g slk's...

I really think thats too heavy to. Not the weight as is, but the height. There will be a lot more force if the cooler is higher than if it half height. Results are impressive, but I would only dare to use one in a desktop case.

Replace the fan by 2 papst aund you will have the most efficient + quiet air cooling system

I had done a review on this heatsink too and had found that at low speeds the fan seemed to cause a lot of noise. Hard to explaiin until you try it with another fan. Could you tunr off other fans in your system and see if you get the same result?

I just want to see if it is that way on all of these or if they did a last minute revision on the fan. I have only seen two other places report the same noise so it could have been a bad batch of fans.

hello :hello: nintari , thanks for dropping by,

But when turning down the rheobus dial to the lowest setting we hear an unpleasant sound coming from the HSF setup, the fan vibrates at lower RPM and the housing to which it is attached on the Hyper6 starts to make a ringing noise which stops as soon as you lay your hand on the top. Placing rubbers at the top of the heat pipes between fan mounting bracket should resolve this issue. The noise of the Cooler Master at low speed with the ringing sound was almost as taxing as using the Tornado fan at full speed, not a good sign.
when using the Tornado fan I didn't experience the ringing noise from the fan mounting case. if you move the case from side to side you'll notice it touches the tops of the 6 heat pipes causing "some metal noise", now if the that cage would start trembling, as with the fan @ low speed, then you get quite an irritating noise.

check the link in my previous post for more reviews, not everyone experienced this "ringing" though.

What a gigantic thing. There's not to much difference between the temperatures? I should take the sp-94. Yeah and 1 kg is very much imo.

nintari 12th May 2004 18:41

the vibration came from the fan included with the Hyper 6, I used another fan and did not have any problems. I also have plenty of clearance on the case so the heat sink is not touching anything.

But the vibration can only be heard when you have all other fans running silent.

jmke 12th May 2004 19:05

This is the vibration sound I'm talking about www.madshrimps.be/files/CM-Hyper6-vibration.wmv

do note that recorded this mofie next to my main 200CFM workstation :)

great reviewing, great writing.

- the Hyper6 works with heatpipes, they only start to work very good at high temperatures. too bad they only start to function like they should at a temperature that CPU's can't bear. you should try aircooling a TEC with it ;)

- the fan makes a rattling noise at low speed because of the bearing. I've had another coolermaster rifle bearing fan, it's got the same problem
