AMD Athlon 64 heatsink roundup

Piotke bought a new A64 setup, no better way to break in the system then by doing a heatsink comparison! :)

Very few people have an AMD Athlon 64, but recently AMD introduced the A64 3000+ for a reasonable price. I couldn't resist and bought me one. Time to put some custom HSF units under some fresh A64 load!

well, that rocks, haven't had time to check out any a64 coolers yet, now I have knowledge...
could you not test the slk948u with a standard 92mm fan ? that's what most people would put on it...

TerAngreal 18th January 2004 16:06

... if you need one, I can drop by with my papst 92mm tomorrow

For a very silent setup, you should take the slk947 U with a silent fan (Enermax 80 mm at lowest rpm for example). This is unhearable, and performs decently enough. The slk947 U with a delta 80 mm fan, matches the performance of the Asetek Waterchill, but the sound level has to be doubled to achieve that.
Has to be an 8, not ?
Nice review btw. , but why haven't you tested the boxed cooler w/ the Shin Etsu, just to see how good the boxed paste is.

(I know, I'm not a perfectionist, I'm just stupid :grum:  )

Idd, has to be an 8, edited, thanx.

To be honest, I used the heatink for a quick test, and then cleaned it. A bit later I read that it was shin etsu, too late :)

max stable overclock says 2320mhz with waterchill @ 7v twice

is this correct?

should be 12V, edited, thanks.

but makes no difference in overclock. only in a very cold room 3° overclock becomes a littje higher 2340 Mhz, cpu @ 8 ° :)

TeuS 18th January 2004 18:45

did you use the diode or socket temperature?

piotke 18th January 2004 18:46

Asus probe temperature :)
