AMD A64 S754 Memory timings explored on nForce3 150

Piotke plunges into the deep end of the A64 timings pool to recover that extra bit of performance

On an nForce2 based platform it was proven that that CL2 2-2-5 was not the fastest setting for your ram, in fact CL2 2-2-11 was! But what about the new A64 S754 , does it show the same anomality when combined with the nForce3 150? Is the famous CL2 2-2-5 back? Does Cas Latency influence performance a lot? Let´s find out.

copycat! ;)

I know, I know :)

mine has 4 BH5/6 sticks :)

Don't know much about the differences between AMD 64 and AMD 32 proc computers....

Memory controller is in the CPU for AMD 64 chips. The chipset is out of the picture....

Touché, thank you for pointing out that obvious fact, although we seemed to have missed it completely, DOH.

renamed the article to reflect these changes, the tests are still a valid way of showing performance difference when changing memory timings around on the single channel A64 platform.

The CAS Latency 2 vs 2.5 remains untouched :)

Actually that only applies to Athlon 64 FX plaforms.

curious why you didn't include ram tested at 2-2-2-6 vs 2-2-2-5 ?

i have the same AMD64 3000+/AN50R unmodded and 2-2-2-6 is faster than 2-2-2-5 from my testing

piotke 17th April 2004 18:46

difference will be minimal, but i'll do a quick test if you want :)

Hi Eva2000 :hello: welcome to the forums

you're on XS also right?

good info there about the timings, thanks for taking the time to share that with us.

eva2000 18th April 2004 03:51

hey jmke yup eva2000 from xtremesystems, abxzone, bleedinedge and OCAU forums hehe

piotke, thanks ...
