Thanks :)

I know someone who is not sure about which heatsink to pick for his newly acquired venice 3500+

What is the formula on "best noise/performance" or how are the number ratings arrived?

jmke 16th May 2005 00:06

there is no formula used, just simply dBA + temperature; nothing complex;

those who like silence a lot could multiple the dBA value by *2 then add the temperature to obtain a slightly different result. Or those looking for extreme performance no matter what the noise, can just look at the red bars in the graphs

that scythe looks quite great. On my roomrig I'm still using my trusted xp 90 with an enermax fan @ 40%(xp3000+@2.5ghz)
it's awfully silent...

i have the choice between a coolermaster 48 and a zalman 7700-cu
i also have acces to almost any zalman fan too put on that CM

is there one that wille much more silent or performant than the other?
or should i just choose the cheapest solution?

New to this form but have read various article of your in the last several months.

This is a great amount of work and is going to be helpful for anyone that is looking for an A64 cooler. All that toil of various fan and speed is really giving a comprehensible overview.

I been following the Artic Cooling Freezer line for sometime and the term “freezer” isn’t just a catch word it really descriptive of the design. The fan mounting mimic a refrigerator’s evaporator unit, a set-up that has stayed the same for eons. I guarantee you appliance manufactures have researched the effect flow air over a finned cooler to the enth-degree. I believe they’re on to something, as closed frame fans don’t seem to be as effective with even twice the CFM/RPM (and noise). Compared to the exotic coolers (high priced) in the test with the best fans (additional cost) they are barely beating out this lightweight cooler with <30% less material. Sure if you’re pressing O.C. to the maximum it might not be as effective, but if that’s what you’re after you go for the biggest bad-est. Although, for its compact size, low noise, for even moderate OC’s and daily use you can’t beat its bang-for the buck quotient.

I noticed you provide a vertical position and I assume what the instructions call for. One thing I’d like to know is; would this cooler work for some of the tunnel cases that are on the market? Let me clarify this; is it possible to mount this so air flow can be configured front to rear?

hello Case Cutter, welcome to the forums :hello:

the Freezer64's orientation will largely depend on your CPU socket on your motherboard, as they are not all installed in the same way and have different orientations.

nice would be nice to include primecooler hypercool 4+ in that comparison

i.e.

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=114&num=1

and

http://hi-techreviews.com/nuke/prime...ler4_page1.htm

gives XP-90C some nice competition

jmke 17th May 2005 18:02

I have tested and compared Hypercool III/4+ here : http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=get...&articID=2 45

they are cheaper then Zalman, but not better, don't match up in performance or noise ratio with the XP-90C either;

in the reviews you link to NO dBA measurements were made; the reviewer in the 2nd review even states that you can get the heatsink to run at 15dBA which is in my humble opinion impossible, the quietest room I have here sits at 30dBA; and you can hear a mouse sneeze at that level.

without noise measurements, the XP-120 in that review is in a disadvantage because they used a lower CFM fan on it.
