Shift gear down

I have a PC-controlled security system which should ALWAYS work ... even with power failures.

The backup battery keeps the pc alive for about 25 minutes when power fails. This is mostly sufficient time to locate and fix the problem that causes the power outtage.

I never tested it with folding "on", ... just did the test ... with 100% load (folding "on") the battery only has juice for 6 minutes. That is not enough.

Folder goes off-line :(
Bummer, top 10 was in sight.

But i will try to assemble another folder in juli or august.

ah :/
pretty logical since the CPU @ 100% uses alot more juice

you quit that fast?
a little script like this:
when the UPS (it's an UPS right?) starts, folding quits.
no?

jmke 26th May 2003 17:57

that should work, if the UPS is managable (connect to PC with serial/lpt/usb)

Script should be triggered by ups-soft (APC btw).

I can't find any setting/option that would trigger the UPS-soft in killing an app.

Please share your wealth :D

I'm sure there is an option in the APC soft to launch a program when the power fails

create a .txt document in it put
"net stop fahomeservicename"

rename the .txt to stopfold.bat

then create another startfold.bat
"net start fahomeservicename"

and define the startfold.bat as command to run when power is restored

should work :super:

can you tell me how to stop folding on a laptop once it's on battery power?

jmke 26th May 2003 18:28

no. :p
but stopping F@H when using the battery takes only like.. what.. 2seconds?

if we were doing distibuted folding, I would have said, yes

JMke is right, it's possible, and certainly with APC :-) Love their soft.
And you can always override that in control panel-power options: tab ups.
You can also trigger the same script there

Alwright hotshots.

- Back UP CS 500 - ONLY compatible software = power chute personal edition (PCPE). Business edition = no go.

- There is NO option in the soft to trigger an event. There are only 2 options: safe or maximum.

- There are only two tabs in the PCPE

- I cannot find any program or reg-entry in the dir of PCPE where i can change or fill in the necesary info.

BUT !

In W2K power-management i can launch a program in the "low battery alarm action" - tab. Just set it to 100% and fill in the info. If the battery switches "on" the folder will stop.

Top 10 here i come
