new front page

It doesn't feel like the same site now.

jmke 4th October 2010 23:17

somebody noticed! :D

we had to drag the site into the new "web 2.0" world, as the old one was faulty in too many ways to just patch it up, it had huge performance issues, security risks and not a lot of flexibility; the backend also was seriously outdated

with the new design we can now offer 2 color schemes, better usage of your screen estate, and the backend is now usable for those of our reviewers who don't know html, which is quite a lot of them ;-)

Looks good,

Any plans to "upgrade" the forums aswell?

jmke 5th October 2010 08:39

no immediately plans no, looks oldy?
no major gains in functionality/looks between vB3 vs vB4 in my humble opinion;

vB4 would be preferred for a new site, but I don't see the added value at this point in time :)

Kurgan 5th October 2010 08:46

not so much old, but I think VB4 is starting to mature a little. In the process now of moving my gaming wesbite/forums to VB4 with a Joomla frontpage.

K.

jmke 5th October 2010 08:48

we've customized our vB pretty much beyond the point of "easy upgrade", that is also something keeping us back from upgrading ;)

Kurgan 5th October 2010 08:50

From what I can tell, the Impex tool does a pretty good job of exporting/importing. Are you talking about mod's and add on's?

jmke 5th October 2010 08:56

rewrite of vB code outside the plugin realm ;)

Kurgan 5th October 2010 09:07

OH,

I'll go back to my hole now...:ws:

Wrigleyvillain 5th October 2010 18:54

Nice, I like :)

jmke 5th October 2010 19:05

thanks for dropping in chicago man, long time no see :)

Wrigleyvillain 5th October 2010 19:12

Yeah...no reason really. Missed you crazy Belgians!

OMG they let you have a kid?

jmke 5th October 2010 19:13

slipped through the system maze ;)

zerotol 6th October 2010 17:42

Takes some adjusting the new front page but its ok.:)

nigel 8th October 2010 15:14

yeah i like it :)

It looks good ;)

Zeikzeil 8th October 2010 18:08

So this has been around several days? I didn't notice until right now and I've definitely been here this morning. Must've been me :P
Either way new doesn't mean better in my humble biased opinion. I'm gonna check out the color schemes you mentioned to see what's what.
Web 2.0 is overrated :P

jmke 8th October 2010 18:30

web 2.0 is AJAX, this site features little javascript, no AJAX, and is actually quite retro ;)
definitely not WEB 2.0 :D

Zeikzeil 9th October 2010 12:24

I was merely replying to "we had to drag the site into the new "web 2.0" world" but you're right, this really isn't web 2.0.
The heavens be praised! :D

jmke 9th October 2010 12:40

the admin backend is more web 2.0 ;)

jmke 20th October 2010 20:36

the main site has been tweaked:
- more news on is shown on the frontpage and unnecessary white space has been removed, so you can see more content on the same page height
- more news... shortcut added at the bottom
- clearer labels for the categories added.

Can anybody with IE7/8/9 test out the site?

Kurgan 21st October 2010 12:02

Wait.....someone let IE users in here?

jmke 21st October 2010 13:22

still 10-20% IE users yes; site doesn't behave very nicely under IE
