Our review of this case

Joris 22nd April 2003 23:14

Joris 22nd April 2003 23:21

hier is de tekening nog...

piotke 23rd April 2003 08:08

tot nu toe ben jij de winnaar :)

jmke 23rd April 2003 09:44

nice line of sight, it sure looks flashy :)

the maniak 23rd April 2003 12:20

does it have to be done in MS paint, why not photoshop??

TeuS 23rd April 2003 12:22

in this contest, we prefer creativity above photoshopping skillz

that's the challenge: make something good-looking with a crappy program everybody knows

jmke 23rd April 2003 12:33

MUST use MS Paint ! :)

Magnum_ 23rd April 2003 18:15

Gonna participate this time, really could use a case with better airflow :D

Here we go :

(by the way, there's something wrong with the perspective of the drawing, I know I know :s )

1. MOD CDwriter, put in a plexi window, and some blue leds. Paint the front in silver or black, depending on the color of the rheobus (see below). Maybe paint the interiour as well, so that writer and DVD look alike...

2. DVD : pretty standard, same color as CDwriter

3. PSU => antec truepower480, blue led ;) Dont think it's necessary to mod this thing, looks fancy as it is. Maybe paint it in the color of the writer/DVD, dno yet :p

4. Rheobus, with blue leds behind the buttons, as displayed right here :

or maybe some home-made goodies ;)

5. Plexi Fanduct => 92=>92 mm, papst equipped

6. LCD in sidepanel, preferrably in blue, and with 4 lines display

7. Install Zallman heatpipe passive cooling over R9700 PRO, already ordered @ tones.be. Maybe even put some ramsinks if possible...

8. 3 120mm fans
- 1 outtake in the ceiling
- 1 intake in the frontpanel
- 1 outtake in the rearpanel, if possible there's enough room, else 80/92mm will do fine ;)
The one in the ceiling will get this fingerguard, nice and stylish :

doesnt protect your fingers very well though ;)

The finishing touch on the other fans, I still have to decide... (all papst btw, already got 2, still one left to buy ;) )

9. serial ATA hdd, no fancy shiny rounded cables, don't like that **** :p the thin serial ATA cable will pass nicely at the side of the mobo

10. all powercables etc will be put in a molding, allways gives a nice finishing touch :o

11. maybe put some ccfl's (blue) in the case, dont like the red & green stuff :p Have to look into that when the case gets here (*hint* :D)

Would look nice on my desk, nice/quiet/performant ;)

Here's the drawing :

mot : I want to mention that if I win the case, it WILL get modded (after skoolwork, juli... ) :) maybe with some small changes/maybe even high end H²O this summer :) If I find the time the H²O will certainly be on my agenda !

cR00zIFI><3r 23rd April 2003 19:24

jmke 23rd April 2003 21:24

that would superdupa :)

jakkerd 23rd April 2003 22:01

i'm not going to participate, 'cause i can't use that case :)

tom 24th April 2003 04:34

make something fancy with photoshop, and **** it up with paint :D

mynamesnotjohn 24th April 2003 07:35

this is my mod ....

I think i covered most of it on the pic ... the water idea would completely work with a small water pump from a pet store... and the LED fins.. let me explain.....

The fins would come out from the corner each at thier own angle... maybe ill put them on small hinges hell I dont know? At each corner I would drill a small hole maybe 3/8 whatever would fit the led. Then I would pull out the old dremel to rough up the surface or maybe mirror the plexi fins so the LED's would shine a little better. The LED's go in thru the parrallel port so you can make them dance thru winamp or whatever. . . . ( the WINAMP LED's are a borrowed mod, but stuck with my plexi fin twist to give a cool effect).... Also the cut out corner were the fins are make for a good vent ... just slap a fan up there.....

mynamesnotjohn 24th April 2003 07:38

sorry I made the pic a little big ill down size it if needed ....

TeuS 24th April 2003 07:44

yes, please resize :)

Evangeliz 24th April 2003 07:53

I present my case ;) :

- PSU with changed cover, with led in it.
- Underneath the PSU a small Blacklight CCFL
- 5 UV reactive BLUE fans with each 4 blue leds
- Rounded cables CHROME version with a molex attached to it.
- Molex mod with 2 leds in each of them (Blue & Red)
- Small etch with [M]ADSHRIMPS.COM
- HDD meter in front, all blue leds and the 2 last Red
- 5" or 7" LCD in the unused drivebays
- Small rheobus from eksitdata that goes in the floppy drive, modded to fit in a plexy front and not LIANLI like
- Small [M] logo in front
- PSU wires shortened and removed the ones that are not needed.
- 2 Blue CCFL on each side of the front.
- New "mat" plexy feet with blue leds in them. This will give a glowing effect. Case floating on blue ;)
- Pioneer slot-in dvdplayer in full plexy casing
- 40Gig Hdd specialy window modded for the occasion
- neato fangrill from Cosh ;) ( Lüftergitter 'Tri-YingYang' 80mm )

EDIT : BMP version can be found here :
http://jonas.3ts.be/case2.bmp

mynamesnotjohn 24th April 2003 08:12

ok here it is resized

ok ok I got it right this time... but you cant read the descriptions now... all that time flushed ... just scroll up a few to the bigger image............................................. .........................................

MY idea is to make water splashing down from the corner....

1- id have to make a plexi water resevoir at the bottom of the whole case then put a little pet store fish tank pump in there...

2- slap a stainless steel flex toilet lead to the pump for looks and run a clear water tube to the corner were I got the polished alluminum cap...

3- If I wanted to fork out the cash I could proabably even just water cool the whole system.....

4- the colored lines on the right are 4 fins that angle out from the corner.... they will have holes drilled in each side with LEDs fitted in... The leds run from the parrallel so you can set it to some music and get the whole case to ligth up...

5- the middle would have your common store bought mods .... rounded uv IDE's , plexi fan grills, uv fans , uv PS cover , split loom the cables yada yada.... maybe even a window cut on the top cd-rom

6- I may even float around on ebay see what I could get a 5" LCD for and tie into the front panel.... shoot a custom video and give the pc a personality... ...

jmke 24th April 2003 08:16

Great entrees!
@ mynamesnotjohn : I can read the description perfectly on the smaller .bmp!

:super:

mynamesnotjohn 24th April 2003 08:17

sweet ... it was driving me nuts ... buts thats cool if you all can see it ok

mynamesnotjohn 24th April 2003 08:23

this summer ill be in the works of making the mod happen anyway.... so some time in the near future Ill post a pic of the finished product so my ramblings make some sence....

T-power 24th April 2003 08:28

Should have been faster :'(

Vorex 25th April 2003 02:37

1, Window applicte that says madshrip on the top
2, all fans and cables will be sleeved with uv sensitive paint
3, on the bottom of the case, leds will be placed in a way to make the bottom glow.
4, VU Meter on the front bottom of the case, in a swirl, with madshrimp printed below.

Rik_ 25th April 2003 04:31

Here's my entry... yes, the picture is rather plain and basic, but that's because if I included all the detail, it'd become a cluttered mess. There is prefection in simplicity ;)

I'll describe it in the same order that I'd construct it... My ideas/themes are to have white lighting, chrome features, and minimal mess. I know I'm swaying from the norm with the white lighting, but I like being different.
* Using clear perspex/plexi, I'd construct a PSU housing in the front bottom of the case. Cut an intake into the front of the case, mount a clear fan to draw air in. This fan would have white LED's mounted in it, most likely a custom mod. The rear of the PSU housing would be vented, obviously.

* A CD burner and DVD rom would be windowed, the metal casings I'd have chrome dipped if possible. They'd then be mounted on either side of the case, so the CD faces outwards. A HDD would be windowed and placed in the front top of the case, if possible I'd get its case chromed as well, but I might have to paint it chome instead.

*A giant hole would be cut in the top of the case, to mount my radiator. I didn't draw the details of the watercooling, but this is my idea: Use braided stainless steel tubing (to keep with the chrome theme), watercooled CPU, VGA and NB, an inline system, with the pump hiding inbetween the cdroms to keep visible clutter to a minimum. The radiator would have a duct constructed out of clear perspex, and I'd use four 80mm clear fans... it would sacrifice performance, but look very good.

* Braided IDE cables would be used, yet again keeping with the theme. I'd try to find a way to use chrome/braided housing for all the psu cables, but otherwise black wiring loom would be best to hide the cable mess.

* For my finishing touches, I'd engrave a lightning bolt design into the sides of the case, but this would need to be illuminated to have visual impact, so, to avoid a visual mess, I'd use right-angle aluminium around the bottom of the case, to hide the wiring, and I'd drill holes and place LED's in the bottom of the side panels, facing upwards to illuminate the lightning bolt. The idea of the right-angle is to hide any wiring and the actual LED's, and this would be either polished or chrome painted.

I'd aim to have minimum clutter, as I mentioned, the problem with a clear case is it can become a mess if you're lazy, hence trying to keep all cables under control, and hide anything ugly. This PC would be built for more silent use than outright performance, it looks so good that I'd want to have it running constantly, and I don't like screaming PC's as they're too imposing for use in a bedroom.

jmke 25th April 2003 08:20

man it is going to be a hard to decide on a winner =)

great entrees :super:

piotke 25th April 2003 08:21

btw, contest ends on who's birthday ?

yes yes, mine =)

Peristaltiek 27th April 2003 20:45

Hope u have your sunglasses on =) .
