[M] Asus Silent Square CPU Cooler GiveAway The Asus Silent Square impressed us here at Madshrimps with its excellent performance/noise balance, keeping our test CPU running cool. With the help of Asus we are able to give you the chance to install this high end heatsink in your system.

What do you need to do to make a chance? Post a picture, in this thread, of your current CPU cooler installed in your system; describe your system setup, and why you think the Silent Square should be yours. Share us some details on your current CPU temps and overclocking adventurous (if you have any). The Silent Square fits on AMD S939/S754 and Intel S775, we'll send out the S² free of charge to the participant who's most in need of a CPU Cooling upgrade. this contest runs until 27th October 17:00 GMT+1 |
cardboard mods make my day, they're dirt cheap and quite effective. So far you've got the winning entry ;) 11 days left. |
mmmm, I would have been tempted to join, but after 3 months, still fighting to get my E6600 with it's boxed cooler, so no picture to show ^^ GL to the participants I guess :D |

Sorry for bogging the thread :P Im considering a "Phase 2" ... rerouting the heating duct :D |
CPU: AMD X2 3800+ (939) 2.4Ghz@1.45v Cooler: Cooler Master 6+ Ambient room temp 28C-33C Idle: 38C Load: 55C Idle vid (10cm from case) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...21867879010263 Load vid (10 cm from case zoomed) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...06724206469154 Load vid (2m from case) http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...32674646235284 That's with all the case fans turned down to minimum, else I can hear it from outside of my room. ...I am unable sleep in complete silence anymore... |

as with the other person i tried helping, check your TIM or thermal paste application. the 3200+ AM2 is a 62w part so that heatsink should be VERY capable... unless oyur overclocking which im assumignyou havent as you didnt mention it :P Hope it helps :) Also, dude with hyper 6+, if your fans are making that much noise, try dusting them. dust might be caught in the bearings :P and check your TIM/paste as well 0_0 55 is REALLY high with that cooler 0_0 airflow shouldnt be bad as your in a lian li :S oh wait your room temperature is 28 0_0 holy hell turn on the AC :P |
@0mega I dust out my case every 2 months or so. I only have 2 80mm intakes which are filtered, and 3 80mm exhausts. Neway, it doesn't help too much, and when I lower the voltage on the fan it gets this really irritating whistling sound, and the higher it gets (the voltage) the more it transforms into a jet engine sound :( I use Arctic Silver 5 which was applied about a half a year ago, and I have the cooler titghtened down pretty good with custom screews (the ones that came with the cooler wouldn't fit). The air flow is great, I have all the cables tied down and out of the way. I was planning on upgrading to some plastic tubing soon (mainly for looks, but should help a bit more in airflow). Temps are not too bad. when I run it at stock voltage and speed the cpu stays between 38-48C at idle/load or so when my room temp is around 28C. However, I don't know how true that is anymore because I use speedfan to measure the temps but this new application called core temp (which is said to be more accurate) reports different readings on a 3-7C scale :( I do have the AC on and running, but my room is located upstairs and by the time the air reaches up here it has gone all through the house (I am the last room it goes to). Even by shutting off some of the smaller rooms like bathroom and other rooms in the house and opening mine up it's stall hard to cool my room. I live on the east cost of Texas on an island and it's pretty damn tropical down here. During the summer my room can be anywhere up to 34C. P.S. Oh yeah, my system specs =P X2 3800+ @ 2.4Ghz Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI 2gb Corsair Twin DDR-400 @ DDR-333 XFX 7800GT @ 480/1200 Creative Audigy ZS 2x160gb Seagate HDs 2xNEC DVD+-R/RW drives |

in the summer when my computer was upstairs i knew your pain :P my room was about the same :P and before the duct i IDLED at like 50 0_0 then i had to put a fricking DESKFAN blowing air into my 3 empty drive bays  i also had a very ghetto duct to route that air right over the CPU and ram but dont have any pics :( Cardboard owns. lmfao |

:) but i got no a/c and i live in a tropical climate.... room temp rises up to 40ºC.... so basically my system temp rise... alot.... even vcrise to 79-80ºC.... huhuhu |

furnace just turned on, with the duct, my idle jumps up to 41... and thats with the damn vent closed as much as possible 0_0 |
Overclocking on STOCK cooling should be winning! You're funny Omega, but it looks like you really want to win this. Who doesn't :) Anyhow, I think people that really deserve to win first of all, should be an overclocker... (we all are :)) Second of all, should be running on stock oem cooling... (poor soul... like me:() And lastly but not least, have poor cooling resulting in high temperature in the system... (hot as hell like my idle 41°C :grum:) Now on to the specs... ASUS A8N32-SLi Deluxe Gamer Edition (please gimme the cooler that matches this :)) AMD Athlon64 3700+ oc'd @ 2.75GHz (250*11) Platinum 1GB DDR Dual Channel Ram @ DDR458 2.5-3-3-5 (although the name, these are value rams) MSi NX6600GT oc'd @ 550MHz/1090MHz (gfx card already poor, processor is slowing it down even more) 2x250GB Maxtor SATA2 HDD @ RAID0 (only goodies in this system) 2 Fans (trying to cool but makes too much noise) Room temp 24-26°C CPU @ idle 41°C (in BIOS it shows 44°C) CPU under load can reach up to 52°C  This is my CPU... currently sleeping @ 41°C There's a side fan to cool my case... but doesn't seem to do much  There's also a top fan in the case... I tried to put this fan on the rear also, but it didn't help. :( |
BTW... if any of you guys with aftermarket cooling (like Omega's Silentboost or Nessmaster's Cooler Master) wins this contest... please gimme your old cooler. I'll pay the shipping :) |
Re: Overclocking on STOCK cooling should be winning! Quote:
without the duct my system gets unstable sometimes :( which is REALLY depressing considering i paid 30 bucks for this >_< |
Omega: maybe you should switch back to stock fan... maybe something else is wrong... maybe you're one of those that shouldn't tetter with their hardwares ;) |

my roof is made out of galvanized steel... and my ceiling is just 7ft.... i got a window but its to narrow... and i got no other place to put my pc but my room... i even have an industrial type electical fan and a ventilation fan... but still it doesnt help much. |
i modded the fan from the stock HSF into my front door for my case, then the blades broke off of it randomly  id LOVE to go back to stock... but NOOOO  if theres ONE thing i can say about ym cooler, its silent. thats about it though :P |
I imagine all the participants destroying their cooling rig to get a new cooler when I read all these replies ^^ |

@Omega You remember how you said I might need to loosen up the custom screews cause the temps are too high with the Cooler Master 6+? Well now that it's finally starting to cool down around here I had a room temperature of 25C and the CPU stayed at 33C idle and about 46C around load. So I guess it does perform good :) Still sounds like a mini jet engine going off in my room though :( |
46°C is chilling, reduce the fan speed until your CPU reaches 60-65°C, that's good temp, low enough not to be a problem and you can enjoy the silence. FYI a HOT running CPU is one which goes over 65+ with loud cooling :) anything below 50°C is cool in my book if you want lower temps for overclocking, go WC cooling! |

i wasnt expecting a 16C drop when i put the duct on or whatever it was it 0_0 was at mid 40's idle, then low 30's :P |
Well, I am new to this FORUM. My rig ==== Pentium D 940 3.0 Mhz ASUS P5WD2 Motherboard WD Raptor ADHD 1500 ATI X1900 Cross Fire Edition Card 1GB Kingston Value RAM a 667 Mhz Shuttle CR40 DVD Rewriter Shuttle 22 in 1 Card Reader Gigabyte Aurora Case Eneramax Liberty 500 Watts Modular Power Supply Logitech MX1000 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Altec Lansing 4.1 Speakers I have overclocked my CPU to 3.8 Ghz. It idles at 49 ~ 50. Under a little load it gives me temps of 55~60. But the real deal is when I start gaming. The fan really gets onto my nerves. Not to mention the even Noisier fan on the ATI card. Both the INTEL and ATI stock coolers suck. Reason to WIN the ASUS Silent Square CPU Cooler are many: =========================================== 1. It will go well with my ASUS Motherboard (Being the same brand and logos all over the place) 2. Its silent just as its name suggests. And better temperatures at idle and load Im sure when compared to my stock cooling. 3. Its purrrrrty. 4. The Blue LED goes well with my Gigabyte Case FAN LED and last but not the least Im Desperate (Its very difficult to find one of these here in Dubai) Finally.. what can I say... I love ASUS |
Another pic of my cooler with a view also of the ATI Crossfire card and the Gigabye 12" Fans. ASUS kicks the AS'US of all the other CPU coolers. (Sorry I couldn't resist adding this one). |
Thank you Madshimps for such a lovely giveaway. All the Best to all the participants. |
I got my acer veriton 5600g desktop machine of a rebate almost a year ago in a retail shop. It's prescott 530 on 3Ghz, Intel 915 based motherboard chipset, 1Gb DDR3200 Micron, 120gb Sata seagate disk, pioneer dvd-rw, hi-pro 350w PSU and finally pixelview 6600gt graphic card At that time I thought it was a good bargain since I used my old comp (P3-800) for a long time (4 years). I was so happy to finally purchase my machine, but then there were some problems. Firstly I found out that I got one of the hottest processors in Intel series, famous pres(h)cott series. A couple of web page visits, and unforetunately my doubts were confirmed. Idle temperature of 55c and load up to 80c and higher. Not to mention that performance was mediocre, and my computer was lagging behind every living AMD which my friends own... it was ugly to see, and the amount of heat it generated.. blah! Well atleast now I know why did I receive such a rebate on this computer :-) One of the best thing is that I thought I'll finally play games without a hassle and I'll be happy. Now I got a ban from my girlfriend to play games, since the amount of noise that generic-OEM CPU cooler unleashed into the environment is unbearable! So I'm really happy to use my computer for playing dvd movies! Yipi!! :-( I surely enjoy to watch dvd movies, while I think why did I spend so much money on a computer which primary function is a dvd player :-(((( I tried to overclock a bit my computer, raising FSB freq & proc... but later I decided not to play with a possibility of burning the rest of my machine, and my apartment! So I hope you'll understand why do I need this cooler - DESPARATE! Heh now it's winter and perhaps my comp could be useful as a heater.. but the problem will begin when the temperature will return to normal - summer temperatures So that's I would like very much to win this cooler! It would give me opportunity to play games, and that the rest of my family have peace and quiet in other rooms of my apartment! And ofcourse I would be more than happy not to use my comp as dvd player only :-) |
what cooler do you have on the 6600GT card? that can be a source of noise also |
Nope the 6600GT card isn't a problem (atleast not anymore). Prolink-pixelview generic cooler is also bad. When I play games RPM goes up to 6000, and the noise was also awful. But luckily a friend of mine who has leadtek 6600gt, bought Zalman vf-700 and gave me his cooler. Luckily, it fits perfectly on my prolink 6600gt. I was really reborn, the cooler is so quiet when the card is in idle or in full load. So the graphic card and (and I checked my PSU) have really quiet coolers. It's the CPU cooler that kills my ears :-( Oh... how many times have I cursed Intel for producing Pres(h)cott processors.... :-) |
The countdown begins! I am just keeping my fingers crossed |
thread will be closed at 17:00, then the jury will confer :) |
The decision was unanimous, we like to help those people in need, and from the posts we've read here, brajko2 seems most desperate with a Prescott CPU on an aluminum stock cooling. Thank you all for participating! |
Hi to all forums visitors and to Madshrimps staff! Thanks a lot for this great prize. I assure you that this prize is goint to right hands! Finally I'll be able to play games, without having a sound od jet taking off in my apartment! Yupi... there are going to be some crazy nights when I play games... but this time no-one is going to be bothered with sound of my cpu cooler! Thanks a lot to Madshrimps, and you have certainly received a fan of your website Bye Goran |
Congratulations to Brajko and Cheers to the folks at Madshrimps.!!! |
Do post a pic of the cooler installed in its new home Goran :) |

Im not trying to be an ***, but is there no "skill testing question" sort of verification? like post a picture of your cooler WITH you in it? on places to get into say, an overclock database on XS.org, you usually have to post a picture of your setup with proof its you... cause ANYONE could have ripped the photos off... (i probably had no hope of winning after other people came in, but im a stickler for rules and fairness  ) |
Jmke: No problem, I'll surely do it after I receive it. Don't worry. Omega: Believe me those pictures were posted by me. I don't know how it is on other sites, but I think it's kinda a silly to post faces or something specific to a picture. And especially I'm not proud of my computer, cause I have seen what comps other people have. Believe me I don't want to see faces of computer geeks on forum posts :-) It could really turn up ugly. So when I receive asus cooler, I'll surely post pictures and do something that will verify my authentification |
