I reached 28k apparently. Still 1 machine left somewhere in the desert :-)

I really really wonder where this machine is. This means that there is a server already folding 4 years now, without anyone finding out.

a heavily used machine

it's like the server in a building which replied to ping but they could not find it. turned out it was hidden behind a wall which had been placed there a few years after the server was installed

Yeah, heard of that story. Wasn't it a linux server that had been turning for 6-7 years behind that wall? Talking about decent uptime

not linux/unix, but Novell

The University of North Carolina has finally found a network server that, although missing for four years, hasn't missed a packet in all that time. Try as they might, university administrators couldn't find the server. Working with Novell Inc. (stock: NOVL), IT workers tracked it down by meticulously following cable until they literally ran into a wall. The server had been mistakenly sealed behind drywall by maintenance workers.
