hwboints - the global overclocking competition

You have or have not seen the latest features at HWbot. Beside the global rankings, we have developped a new sort of competition, which will make the overclocking scene more interesting and competitive.

This pointing system is fantastic to compare overclockers to each other, while keeping it fun for those who can't afford the latest Q6700 + 1950 CF. Eg. you will receive a rather low score for being in the top 10 of pcmark (because there isn't much competition), but you will get a huge amount of points when you start to get near the top 50 of superpi, as the competition is very fierce. Same goes for hardware achievements. Having the fastest matrox parhelia will not get you much credits, but having the fastest 7900GT will get you a lot.

If this system gets support for the community (and we are confident we do), we are going to organize contests based on hwboints. Untill then, please share your thoughts on how we can make it even better.

If you are interested in how we calculate these 'hwboints', here's the calculation. it's still open for discussion. :)
Code:

hwboints = global points + hardware points

    * global points (top 5): (50,40,35,30,25 * application weight) * 0.6
    * global points (other): ((-20/145) * your rank + (600/29) * application weight) * 0.6
    * hardware points (top 5): (5,4...1 * hardware weight) * 2

application weigth: 0.5 (<500 participants) - 2 (2000 or more participants)

hardware weigth: 0.2 (1 participant) - 1 (100 or more participants)

Many thanks to mtzki, who's the intelectual father of hwboints. I'm just the grunt who coded it.

All the info you'll ever need about hwboints can be found here

The Hwboints ranking is divided in two sections: one for members, which is currently dominated by (who else?) ... k|ngp|n, and one for teams, dominated by XS.

I'm not sad :)

it's a cool sig to have, but IMG in sig's for forums add too much page load in my humble opinion;)

RichBa5tard 13th November 2006 11:02

Normally your browser loads images last, after all the content is displayed, but I can't blaim you. :)

the hwbot sig is only 16kb!

20~30 posts/page= 480Kb extra data per page... no thanks, not everybody is on broadband ;)
