 |  Sony confirms 40GB PS3 for Europe, removes backwards compatibility The 40GB PlayStation 3 hardware was one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming history, with our inside sources spilling the beans and numerous pieces of evidence surfacing from the retail channels to prove that Sony was getting ready to add something to its PlayStation 3 line. An FCC filing confirmed the existence of new hardware, but now we have final word from Sony: the 40GB, €399 ($564) PlayStation 3 will be launching in Europe on October 10. Related Stories Sony isn't cutting the price so dramatically without giving up features, however. The new hardware will not have the multi-memory card port, it will feature two USB ports instead of four, and, most surprising of all, the system won't feature backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games of any kind. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...atibility.html
