Default Shelby sets out to build world's fastest electric car, the Ultimate Aero EV

American supercar manufacturer Shelby Supercars, or SSC, isn’t as well known as the likes of Bugatti, Ferrari or Lamborghini, but it’s a special company for several reasons. In addition to holding the world record for the fastest production car, the company has just announced it’s developing an all-electric version of its Ultimate Aero supercar (pictured) that it hopes will become the world’s fastest electric vehicle (EV).

The Ultimate Aero EV, one of the first ‘green’ supercars, will begin testing in February next year and is expected to be in full production by the fourth quarter of 2009. “I think we can do it faster, leaner and cleaner than any other manufacturer,” said SSC founder Jerod Shelby, who incidentally bears no relation to legendary race driver and sports car developer Carroll Shelby.

pretty cool, but of no big use for DTM racing.

I'm talking about competition racing, no way it's going to be able to compete with gasoline powered race cars.

well, it's not supposed to. So ok, it won't be able to compete with those cars.. but at 413.83km/h top speed you can hardly call it a slow ROAD car

I'd like to buy an electric sportscar... I drive 60km/day low speed mostly and would charge it every night with the sunpanel-electricity...

Just red: http://www.hln.be/hln/nl/940/Autonie...-paarden.dhtml

700hp electric sports car
0-100 hm/h in roughly 4s
10min charge equals a 300km drive
battery's would last 12y

If all that is true...

I wonder, would I be able to voltmod my future cars? That would be so cool
