| Genius ErgoMedia 500 Controller In reality I have only tried the ErgoMedia in 1 game of each genre of game I own, I think its fair to say if it can be used in Infernal and all first person shooters with no issues. What worries me a bit though is the fact that it didn’t seem to work properly in Need For Speed Carbon and other driving Games.
The issue of one key press interrupting another certainly didn’t arise in Infernal so I suspect the issue is between NFS and the ErgoMedia 500 this does however suggest it might be a bit of a lottery as to which driving games it will work in and which it wont. A shame really as when it DOES work it seems to work very well be it in a first person shooter or RPG or whatever and could prove quite useful in RPG / RTS games and non-gaming applications for setting up macros to perform multiple tasks on a single key press.
The instructions are quite detailed in what they go into and useful in that respect but the software is VERY easy to use and pretty much self explanatory the instructions are almost not required so I can’t fault it in that respect BUT it’s the information they leave out that is probably the most important, like what to do if the ErgoMedia disables your expensive sound card or you want to use the motherboards onboard surround sound. I am reasonably knowledgeable where computer hardware is concerned but it wasn’t obvious how to sort it out and I am lucky enough to have people who I can turn to for help when such problems arise, others who purchase one of these may not be so lucky.
If you’re looking for a controller to use in RPG / RTS games or other applications where you want to program some macros then I would say look no further. I suspect though most people will want to get something like the ErgoMedia 500 for more action orientated games and as such I would have to say be warned with driving games. http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/review.php?id=358 |
