Default 10 ways for a geek to survive and thrive this holiday season

This automated RSS Feed post is about:
The holidays can be tough. Lots of people hanging around, lots of family to contend with, lots of money being spent and nary an hour to oneself to plow through the latest game or tinker with the newest gadgets. To that end I’ve put together a list that may help us geeks get through the holidays with our sanity and humor intact.
  1. Make your own meade, a honey based alcohol drink dating back over 3000 years. It’s delicious and after seven glasses, Aunt Bertha no longer seems all that intimidating.
  2. Go out and get a bunch of USB drives for all your friends. Then, make them more memorable by sewing them inside of stuff.
  3. Invest in one of the coolest toys ever – Remote Control Laser Tag Helicopters. Then give them to your only child niece or nephew, thus guaranteeing that you’ll get to play with them too! (or buy two sets!)
  4. Vote to get super cheap stuff through Amazon.com. Imagine scoring that PS3 for 50% off? Well it may just be a reality. Then you’ll have to decide whether you’re going to give it away or be selfish!
  5. Start a blog detailing all of your holiday triumphs and tragedies.
  6. Build customized Linux distros for each family member. Sure it will take you hours and hours but think of the excitement on Grandma’s face when you hand over a 5 year old P4 with NanaOS on it!
  7. Have a relative that seems to have everything or a spouse that’s hard to shop for? How about a kid who’s only looking for run of the mill toys? Add some adventure and excitement to their lives by building them a rocket launcher! Imagine their faces as they open this gift!
  8. Learn how to cure hangovers and be worshiped by your family members for the uber-geek with all the answers that you are.
  9. Synchronize your holiday lights to your holiday music. Sure you may not have $10,000 like the well watched synch to the Trans Siberian Orchestra that’s been circulating around for a few years but for $125 you can come up with something that will do you fairly well.
  10. Lock your doors and watch the entire Lord of The Rings (extended edition) trilogy, the Matrix Trilogy and the original cuts of the Star Wars episodes IV – VI.
