Default Yahoo wants Apple to knife Google

Yahoo's Chief Executive Marissa Mayer is working on a cunning plan to persuade Apple to ditch Google as its default search engine in favour of Yahoo.

Word on the street is that Mayer's effort is in advanced stages and she has a PowerPointless demo already prepared for Apple executives.

Yahoo senior vice president of mobile and emerging products, Adam Cahan, is behind the plan.

Mayer, who used to work for Google, has enough support from Apple executives, including Jonathan Ive, who she has known for a while.

Ive gave the world the rounded rectangle and exerts enormous influence over Jobs' Mob with his equiangular quadrilateral ways.

Google search, which has been the default search engine in iOS and powered Apple's Safari Web browser used on iPhones and iPads for quite some time. Jobs' Mob collects $1 billion per year for traffic driven to Google servers and subsequent ad network.

While Apple and Google hate each other with a passion, after Google practically knocked Apple from its rule as king of the smartphone business, Apple stuck with Google's services over the years to keep things looking the same.

Yahoo's results were not great and depended on business investments in China. Mayer needs to pull a few rabbits out of hats to make some serious cash.
