 |  Xbox 2: first of next-generation console to be released It appears that Microsoft will be the first of the Big Three to release its next-generation console. Variously described as "Xbox 2" or "Xbox Next," Microsoft is pushing to get it on store shelves in time for the 2005 holiday shopping season. Software Development Kits (SDKs) consisting of Power Macintosh G5s with ATI Radeon Pro 9800 video cards running a customized Windows NT kernel have been arriving at developers, who are pushing to get titles out in time for the anticipated launch. While it may seem incongruous to be developing games for the Xbox on Apple hardware, it makes sense given that IBM will be supplying the CPU powering the new console. http://arstechnica.com/news/posts/20040618-3905.html
