Default UHD Blu-Ray disks available in seven weeks

It looks like the movie industry has worked out another way to gouge its customers for more cash – it is charging a fortune for new releases under the UHD Blu-Ray format.

UHD Blu-rays releases films in the 4K resolution and will solve the problem of a lack of content for UHD tellies. Last week we saw Samsung and Panasonic showing off their first UHD Blu-ray players.

However it looks like the movie industry has decided that we will want to pay through the nose for this content as we replace some of our favourite flicks in a better format.

Films like The Last Witch Hunter will set you back $42.99 which is more than most of us would like to pay for a film even if it did manage to be a movie the Vin Diesel which was not total pants (other that Guardians of the Galaxy but we didnt have to actually see him act in that one).

Older films will cost about as much as a standard Blu-ray, which is more reasonable but still charging an extra $20 for the latest film strikes us as a bit on the nose.

The first UHD Blu-ray discs will go on sale on March 1 and the banks will be open for those who want to mortgage their homes to update their DVD collections to something more modern.
