A Trio of Widescreen Monitors SLIDESHOW (12) Slideshow | All Shots If you wander through any consumer electronics store these days, you'll be hard pressed to find televisions with old-style, 4:3 aspect ratios. HDTV has made the television universe a widescreen world, and 16:9 is the format of choice for modern digital TVs. But as LCD monitors take over PC desktops, most seem to be mired in a 19-inch, 1280x1024 pixel world. 1280x1024 is an odd, 5:4 aspect ratio; many games and even DVDs of older TV shows don't quite fit. While desktop displays and PC video cards have gotten much better at upscaling and downscaling resolutions, 5:4 just seems plain weird. |
