Default Tips to Organize your Server Room @ OCModShop

If you are looking to get your server room organized in 2008, there are a few key steps to keep in mind while you are going through the process. Your server room houses valuable information for your business and the safety and security of your equipment should be of top concern. In addition, the equipment that you choose should be efficient and safe for long term use.

wow, very basic information, there are a lot of other things to think about:
  • Server aren't lightweight, a lot of server neither. Not only the racks most be strong enough, the floors that will support all the weight must be strong enough.
  • Air conditioning will keep the server room at a descent temperature, but it will also keep the air dry. The risk for electrostatic discharging and damaging your servers will become a major problem. Everything must be grounded (not only the servers, but the racks too). Using a metal floor isn't a bad idea, it'll ground everything, distributes the weight and considering it's mass and thermal capacities, it'll also helps keeping things cool.
  • Have a backup cooling system, air conditioning systems can freeze themself shut resulting in a HOT server room. Overheating alerts aren't a bad idea either.

Best is to contact people that are familiar with building such rooms or at least someone who knows something about buildind structures (bouwkunde ? ).
