Default SZ270R8: Powerful XPC cube supports Intel Optane technology

- Provides space for four hard drives and two NVMe SSDs
- Three M.2 slots and Dual Gigabit Ethernet
- Also suitable for 28 cm dual-slot graphics cards

Elmshorn, Germany, 2017-08-31 – a new memory technology from Intel enables even shorter system and program starts. This now makes the XPC Barebone SZ270R8 from the XPC cubes series, which is now 16 years old, more agile than ever. With the Z270 chipset at its core, this newly presented Mini-PC can accommodate the latest Intel Core processors, modern dual-slot graphics cards, up to four hard drives and 64 GB of DDR4 memory.

Intel Optane SSDs have particularly short response times and incredibly high IOPS rates. When one of these SSDs with 3D Xpoint memory is inserted into one of the M.2 slots, this makes the PC noticeably more responsive. Charging times are reduced still further, and the operating system and the programs installed start faster.

"The R8 chassis format provides the ideal basis for such technology," says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "Memory capacity in the mid-double-digit terabyte range can be combined here with impressive access times."

The mainboard offers three M.2 slots in total: 1x M.2-2230, for a WLAN module for example, and 2x M.2-2280 for data storage media with a PCIe interface.

The PCI Express x16 3.0 slot is available for modern graphics cards. The maximum length of the cards that can be used there (dual-slot or single-slot) is 28 cm. When a single-slot card is installed, the second PCI Express slot (x4-3.0) can also be used for example for a 10 Gbit network card or an RAID controller.

If one then also looks at the traditional PC attributes, the device also has 1x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort, 6x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, 2x Gigabit Ethernet and audio connections. Four SATA connectors and just as many slots allow the installation of four 3.5" HDDs and therefore a memory capacity of well over 40 terabytes.

The R8 chassis with its dimensions of 33.2 x 21.6 x 19.8 cm (LWH) has been reinforced at various points and therefore provides increased protection for the components inside it during transportation and mobile use.

To ensure a reliable power supply, also when an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card is installed, for example, the SZ270R8 is equipped with a 500 Watt power supply unit.

Accessories that are optionally available include a 2.5" HDD/SSD drive holder (PHD3), serial interface (H-RS232) and WLAN/Bluetooth module (WLN-M).

The recommended retail price from Shuttle for the SZ270R8 is EUR 322.00 (ex VAT). This model is available from specialist retailers Europe-wide upon publication of this press release.
