Default Supercomputing superpowers: Top 500 supercomputer list has been released

The data used to generate the interactive treemap visualisation come from a draft of the June 2010 TOP500 Supercomputing list. This ranks most of the world's fastest supercomputers twice a year. There may be minor differences between this list and the final published list.

The graphic allows you to visualise the list by the speed of each machine; the operating systems used; what it is used for; the country where it is based; the maker of the silicon chips used to build the machine and the manufacturer of the super computer.

I remember when we first saw this list about 10 years ago.. We configured one of our 400node clusters here to be able to run the software they use for testing.. Without any tweaking on our part, we scored like 7th on the list as it was at that time.. We would probably not score that high at all anymore, since the bigger clusters are now using upwards of 200k cores.. Our systems are still using only 400 nodes, now with 1600cores, but they are designed for working with extremely large data sets and not necessarily pure computing power..
